The building was already buzzing with people going around with their activities by the time they finally got there. After a short stop at Spencer’s apartment and a long drive through the busy streets, finding an empty spot at the parking lot had been the cherry on top of their hectic morning. But they had made it. And sprinting towards the elevator, they had also managed to catch it before its doors had closed.

Bursting through the doors together, breathless but content, they were met by their colleagues already in the bullpen. Their eyes staring back at them, each with a different expression.

“Here you go.” Y/N said dropping the car keys on Penelope’s hand before greeting the rest of the group with a smile.

“Uhm. What’s going on?” Derek questioned with certain amusement, witnessing it all happen before his eyes.

“Nothing.” Y/N said easily setting her things on her desk. Derek’s gaze meeting Spencer’s for a moment. Both eyebrows raised as his friend slowly changed colors over his insinuation.

“Y/N, can you come here for a second?” Gideon asked calmly with both hands pressed against the railing.

Without uttering a word, Y/N attended to his request rushing up the set of steps. The rest of the team left behind staring at each other’s faces with confusion. Watching their colleague disappear behind the door to Gideon’s office, with him and Hotchner following her suit, a list of unanswered questions lingered in the air.

“Have a seat, please.” He told her as both men stood to the side leaning against the chest of drawers. “We’ve received a complaint this morning.” He began.

“About me?” She asked.

“Yes.” Gideon told her. “You and two other agents.” He added and Y/N sighed. “I’m guessing you know what this could be about.”

“Yeah.” She answered running a hand through her hair. And a single question popped up in her head. “Was it my father?”

“Yes.” Hotchner answered this time. “What are you doing Y/N?” He asked and she took a deep breath.

“I’ve been working my case.” She confessed. “And the guys have been kind enough to try and help me. But I’ll take full responsibility for the complaints and the charges associated to them.” She told them. “I’ll even resign right now if I have to.”

“You can’t work on a case your involved in, Y/N.” He reminded her what she already knew.

“I know, sir. But I also know that I’ll go to jail if I don’t.” She stated. “Nobody’s gonna do it for me. Nobody cares enough to. The risk’s just too high for them to dig their fingers in the mud. I’m just another agent for them. I’m redundant.” She added. “Even the prosecutor works for them!” She said with a bitter laugh. “I don’t expect you to agree with my actions, but you won’t stop me either.”

“What do you have so far?” Hotchner asked her.

“I don’t know how much you know about the case but, we found bank statements and chats that prove Copland was blackmailing Perez for money. And while we still don’t know what Copland’s been threatening Perez with, we think he could’ve done something to Holly Leonard -his personal assistant- while she was still a minor.” She informed them.

“And you think Perez was responsible for Copland’s accident.” Hotchner stated.

“I have reasons to believe so, yes.”

“And how about your other case?” Gideon asked. “The one that would actually keep you out of jail.”

“I haven’t worked on that one yet.” She answered. “But, if my assumptions are right and both cases are somehow related, once I get to solve the first one I might find the key to the second.”
