The familiar scent of freshly brewed coffee filling the air met Y/N as she stepped into her cozy kitchen. Being back at home after a grueling case that had kept her away for days was a feeling she could not describe if she wanted to. While the exhaustion weighed heavily on her, the comfort of her own space brought a sense of relief.

As she sipped her coffee, grateful for the peace and quiet of her home, her mind wandered back to the case. The grime; The chaos; The desperation. The images of Spencer being tortured playing on repeat inside her head; The fear of never getting him back. It had been one of the toughest cases she had ever worked on, but she was grateful that everyone had made it back safely.

After one refreshing shower, Y/N quickly prepared some simple breakfast, eager to fuel up before heading back to the office. But just as she sat down to eat, her phone rang, breaking her tranquil morning. With a sense of anticipation, she answered the call, her mind already shifting back to work mode.

“Y/N? Hi! I was just calling to let you know I’ve just been informed that I’m going to enter the witness protection program. I’ll be giving my testimony on Monday.” A voice she had only heard a few times but felt so familiar said as soon as she had picked up the call.

“Holly, I’m happy to hear that. And I’m glad you’re fine now.” She replied genuinely happy for the younger woman. “You’ve made the right decision.”

“I know, and I will tell you everything when I get back in the city. I’m afraid to talk about it over the phone but, maybe we can meet in a day or two?” Holly suggested.

“I’m available any time you need.” Y/N responded with a slight sense of relief running through her veins.

“I wanted to thank you for your help. I wouldn’t have been able to find courage without you.” She told her.

“Anytime.” She said with a soft smile dressing her lips. “This will all be over soon.”

Despite the interruption of her quiet morning routine, Y/N couldn't help but feel a surge of adrenaline at the thought of it all. A new opportunity. A silver lining out of the dark clouds that hovered over her head.

With a quick goodbye to her peaceful morning, she gathered her things and headed out the door ready to face whatever awaited for her back at the BAU. Whatever it was, she knew she could face it. But she needed to hurry up or else she would be late.

“Sandra Davis. Sixteen years old. This is her singing at her high school talent show a month ago.” JJ started to debrief a new case for the team gathered around the round wooden table. Their focus fixed on the information being shared by their liaison. “This is her on-again, off-again boyfriend, Ken Newcomb.” She added showing a picture of him on the screen. “Their bodies were found in a park near the male victim's car in Groton, an affluent mostly white suburb of New York City in Westchester County. It's the third of three killings believed to be a series of hate crimes.” She explained.

“Hate crimes?” Emily inquired.

“The first two victims were Keisha Andrews, 15, and Vickie Williams, 17.” Hotchner said. “They disappeared from their homes in central Westchester one night. Their bodies were found in a wooded area in the southern part of the county, near the city.” He added as the team was shown pictures of the scene of the crime.

Turning her gaze away from the pictures of both victims, Y/N’s eyes fell briefly on Spencer all the way across the room. After arriving at the office just in time for their meeting, she had barely had any time to talk to him. He seemed distracted; Lost in thought. Hands fidgeting slowly, as his body made an effort to rid itself from any undesired anxiety.
