FOURTEEN YEARS LATER
THE NOW NINE AND TEN-YEAR-OLD GIRL SAT IN HELAENA'S CHAMBERS with Helaena sat next to her with her book open in front of her as the two sat on one of the steps inside her room. she held a bug in her hand as they took a break from their studies
"It has how many legs?" Helaena asked her older sister "Eight" She said as Helaena smiled and pet the head of the bug "What is its name?" Daena asked her little sister whom she liked to keep entertained
The girl was four and ten and had the mind of a six-year-old, a calm one. Helaena was quiet and kept to herself a lot and hated being touched, even by Daena she hated it. two years ago she claimed dreamfyre an old dragon ridden by Queen Rhaena Targaryen.
she raraley flies with her dragon. she only flew two times. the first time was when she first claimed the dragon and the second time was with Daena on her last nameday as a present as they both escaped to the vale and hid by an arbor for the whole day to avoid court
that was probably the only time Daena ever saw Helaena laugh.
"What would You like it to be?" she asked "Does it need a name?" Daena asked as she cringed at the sight of the bug
"beautiful," Helaena said ignoring her older sister and making Daena roll her eyes bored out of her mind. yes, she loved her sister but Helaena could be dull for the wild princess. Helaena and Daena were so similar yet so different.
They were interrupted by the their mother Who had come to sit with them, Not wanting to be near Viserys "May I sit with you daughters?" She asked as Helaena nodded
Daena began to grow distant from her mother and father. as she grew to become a teen and later an adult she began to relaise the world wasn't all bright and happy. she hated her mother yet could not seem to live without her
"How is her studies going?" Alicent asked Daena "She is bright," Daena said a few words to Alicent. More and more reason why she and Helaena were so similar, is they looked similar as well many lords and ladies used to think they were twins
Since Daena had not been married yet which did confuse a lot of people, she took on the role as teacher for her younger siblings she taught them a lot of high valerian and dragon history thanks to her septas and her older sister Rhaenyra.
Nobody in redkeep looked more up to Daena then Aegon did. The boy was rarely seen without his older sister. They always came together, If you requested Aegon's presence daena would be there. if you requested Daena's presence Aegon would most likely join as well
The same could not be the same for Aemond who was always picking at every chance he got a annoying his sister and glaring at her every cnace he got, He hated himself so he thought he should hate everyone else
Daena gave him what he wanted and hated him too, she liked to annoy him about him being dragonless but also hated it when Jacaerys or Lucerys did it, the sons of Rhaenyra Targaryen.
If you asked Daena targaryen her favourite person in the red keep. she would say Aegon and Helaena, everyone else can throw themselves of the red keep. She change dalot over the years from the sweet princess who brought everyone together to the emotioless Princess who shut people out caused fights between her family
No one knew why but people missed the old Daena, the young Daena, the one who used to sneak out of the castle to help smallfolk. The Daena used to help her mother and father in times of needs. not the new Daena who calls her half-sister and whore and her nephews bastards.
Smallfolk wondered what happened to the princess when she was rarely seen, they missed her they cried her name but she was never seen much outside the red keep
People always wondered what did happen to the realm's Joy?
"Your grace" The guard entered, and behind him was her son Aemond all dirty and covered in charcoal. Alicent had yelled at Aemond for his obsession with the beasts called dragons
"They gave me a pig!" Aemond Yelled out making Daena look up from her spot "A what?" Alicent asked back "They said they found a dragon for me." Aemond told the queen
"The last ring has no legs at all." Helaena went on as Daena managed to play with the skin of her hand while listening to both of her siblings at the same time
"But it was a pig," Aemond Continued "You will have a dragon one day." Alicent comforted her son "He'll have to close an eye." helaena continued talking with the bug crawling around her hand
Daena looked towards her sister and back at Aemond "The sapphire will be open." Daena said under her breath as she looked out the window breathing heavily.
