Sokani clicks on the last unread message in her inbox. Still no text from Jayla. Instead, it's from a random girl, who's asking for the price of her small knotless braids, even though it's on the booking website. Sokani rolls her eyes and kissed her teeth, before typing a quick, generic reply.

Sokani is itching with an intense desire to redo Jayla's hair. It's literal torture knowing her client dislikes her hair, and it's nothing Sokani can do about it until Jayla texts her.

Ultimately, she decides to give up. Jayla won't be texting her. She plops her back against her chair with her lip poke out. She's has nothing to do other than scroll endlessly on her phone. She has no school work and doesn't know anyone in her second block.

Sokani looks around her classroom, everyone is in groups talking to each other. It feels like she has a sub in her class since her teacher doesn't have anything planned for today. She continues to look around, before laying her eyes on the random brown-skin girl beside her, who is sitting quiet on her phone.

All Sokani knows about the girl is she transferred from a neighboring school after winter break and no one really talks to her. It's probably because everyone already has their friends.

Sokani takes a deep breath, summoning the courage to approach the girl. She taps her desk a couple times. "Hey! Who's your Chemistry teacher?" Sokani asks. Her voice is filled with genuine enthusiasm.

The girl slowly looks up for a brief moment before she settles her phone gently into her lap. Sokani's expression brightens due to the girl beauty. Despite the acne that covers her skin, she radiates a certain cleanliness and care. Her face is glowing, her eyebrows are perfectly arched, and her micro locs are in two ponytails.

"It's dat one white lady wit da fucked up ends." She says with the most serious tone—no emotion in her face.

Sokani is taking aback by the out of pocket comment and the girl's voice. She was expecting the girl's voice to be soft based on her outfit, but instead it was deep. She automatically knows who she is talking about though since her Jakobi talks about the teacher's hair all the time. "Your tammat Ms. Mcbride?" Sokani questions wrinkling up her nose.

"If her hair is extremely thin at the ends. Then, yeah." The girl giggles at her own comment. Her laugh is contagious—it's more funny than the joke. They both slowly stops laughing, then the girl turns her whole body to Sokani.

Sokani clasp her hands together, smiling widely. "Your funny. What's your name?" She inquires as she adjusts her posture, sitting up straight. Her voice tings with curiosity.
