In the morning of the first, Alvena stood near the fireplace of the Slytherin common room watching the many students piling out of the room. She waved her group of friends away, shuffling from one foot to another as wave waited impatiently for her date to come join her.
And there he was, Theodore Nott, slowly coming down the stairs of the rooms. The only thing was, it was the girls rooms. The Nott boy looked up to catch her stare, a smile breaking on his feature. She frowned at him once he finally made it to her side.
"What were you doing in the girl's dormitory?"
His eyes widened like a child getting caught taking from the cookie jar and he awkwardly scratched the back of his neck, "oh, I was looking for you, but once I saw you weren't in your room I went down."
Alvena laughed it off, shaking her head. "You're impossible," she said with a lighthearted grin, nudging Theodore playfully. "But fine, we'll let it go this time."
They made their way out of the common room and into the hall, moving swiftly toward the arena. The day's task for the Triwizard Tournament was set to begin soon, and the excitement was palpable. As they stepped into the cold, open air of the courtyard, the large ring of stone loomed ahead. The arena was a massive circular pit, the bottom covered with jagged rocks and the surrounding stands filled with eager spectators. Alvena could feel the anticipation of the crowd as they filed in to find their seats.
When they reached the stands, they found Draco already sitting in a spot near the middle. He looked up as they approached, his sharp eyes narrowing when he saw their hands intertwined.
"How sweet," he said, his voice dripping with sarcasm. "Didn't know you two were so... cozy."
Alvena squeezed Theodore's hand, rolling her eyes but not letting go. "Shut up, Draco," she muttered, sitting down between him and Theodore. Her eyes wandered over to the arena as the task began to unfold.
Draco grumbled but did not argue, folding his arms across his chest. His gaze lingered on their hands for a moment longer, and a soft groan escaped him. "You two are insufferable," he muttered, though there was a note of resignation in his voice. "But fine, I'll wish you happiness, just don't make me watch it."
"How generous," Alvena replied sarcastically, but there was a flicker of amusement in her eyes as she leaned back into her seat.
As the task kicked off, all attention was drawn to the arena, and, naturally, Harry Potter was the one to impress the crowd with his usual bravado. Alvena glanced at Theodore, noting how his eyes narrowed as Harry made his way through the task with ease. "As expected," she muttered. "He's always got a trick up his sleeve."
Blaise, who had been sitting nearby, stretched and grinned. "Well, now that that's over with, anyone up for a more relaxing time? I'm thinking the boys' dormitory. We could... unwind a bit."
The suggestion was met with eager nods, and soon enough, the group was making their way back to the Slytherin common room. Once there, they found themselves in the boys' dorm, lounging about with a few drinks and, for some, a bit of illicit smoke. The air was thick with a mix of laughter and the occasional cough.
It wasn't long before Pansy, Daphne, and Millicent joined them, each of them eyeing the boys with curiosity. Pansy immediately went to sit next to Draco, leaning against him as if it was the most natural thing in the world. Alvena caught the movement out of the corner of her eye, her stomach knotting slightly at the sight. She didn't want to overthink it, so she shrugged it off, focusing instead on the buzzing energy of the room.
"You know what would be fun?" Blaise suddenly asked, a mischievous grin spreading across his face. "Let's play truth or dare."
The idea was met with excitement, and soon they were all gathered in a loose circle, taking turns with the game. Laughter echoed through the dorm, but things took an interesting turn when Daphne chose Theo who chose a dare.
"I dare you... to kiss me" Daphne said, her tone playful but her gaze lingering on Theodore.
Theo raised an eyebrow, clearly intrigued. "Alright..."
Without missing a beat, Daphne leaned in and kissed him. The kiss was brief but enough to make Alvena's chest tighten, her stomach turning into a hard knot. She forced herself to remain calm, but a small frown tugged at her lips. She wasn't sure why she felt this way, but something about the kiss left a sour taste in her mouth.
Mattheo, sensing the tension, leaned in with a grin. "Alright, your turn, truth or dare?" he said to Alvena.
Without hesitation she immediately called out for a dare and as if they had read each other's mind, Mattheo leaned forward and before she could protest, he pressed a kiss to her lips.
The room erupted in laughter, and Alvena couldn't help but smile despite herself. It was ridiculous, but somehow, the atmosphere seemed lighter. Theodore, however, wasn't quite as amused. His jaw tightened, and his eyes darkened, though he kept his composure for the moment.
Pansy, ever the instigator, smirked. "Oh, how cute," she said, her voice dripping with mock sweetness. "It's like a little love triangle in the making."
Alvena could feel her patience slipping. "Enough, Pansy," she said, her voice sharp. "If you're going to be snarky, maybe you should leave."
"Or maybe you should," Pansy shot back, but before she could escalate things further, Alvena stood up abruptly. "I'm out. I've had enough."
Draco, sensing the tension in the room, stood as well, his brow furrowing. He hesitated, glancing toward Theodore, who seemed to be on the verge of saying something. Before Draco could make another move, Theodore stepped forward, his hand on Draco's arm. "I'll go with her," he said, his voice firm.
Draco frowned but nodded, stepping back as Theodore followed Alvena toward the door. The rest of the room fell into a silence, the weight of the tension lingering long after they had left.
The night stretched on, and eventually, the others drifted off, but Alvena didn't know if she'd be able to shake the unease in her chest. As for Theodore, his intentions weren't as clear as he had led everyone to believe.
