Chapter 5

As soon as the car stops, I look around and a soft smile forms on my face. Lights, tons and tons of lights surround us, the moon, and the stars too. It felt like I could see the whole city

"Ahhhh" I scream when i hear a click

"What the hell are you screaming for?" He asks

"What are you doing?" I ask

"Unbuckling your belt stupid girl" he says sitting back in his seat

I nod seeing that the click was him unbuckling me, I inch all the way to the door so my back was resting on the car door

"How long has she been cheating on me?" He asks looking at the view

"I didn't know she was cheating on you, I swear if I knew I'd tell you but I"

"I am not asking for justifications, how long has that man been coming to your house" he asks

"Mhm a while, I mean in the beginning it was once or twice a week, if I remember correctly she said they were studying" I tell him

"And you didn't think it was suspicious that second semester of college just started?"

"Well no because I study ahead"

"Stop being so studious and think logically, a guy comes in a and studies with your sister while the doors are locked and there are noises coming from that room"

I frown a little, I mean yeah there are a lot of noises sometimes like this one time I took some snacks which she asked for and then she yelled at me for knocking on her door.

"Well there was this one time" I whisper

"Did you hear a guy?"

"I just heard them laughing and some weird nosies too but she screamed her head off at me so I didn't feel like asking questions or sticking around to investigate" I mumble playing with my fingers

I am anxious, being this close to him and being alone with him is definitely not something I want, sure I may like him, or love him but I am scared that being around him will trigger those feelings to be more intense

"You didn't care to tell me" he states

"I didn't think anything of it plus you don't even like me"

"It's not about me liking you Nandini, it's about the fact that you let your sister cheat on me"

I could feel tears forming in my eyes hearing him say that

"You think I'd do that purposely?" I whisper looking at him

Sure he hates me but he should know by now that I am not someone who would lie even if she is my sister. I have always pride myself for always telling the truth no matter how hard it may be so for him to think I am lying for veebha di is heartbreaking

"Your sister has been cheating on me for god knows how long and it's not like she does it outside, she is in the house yet you couldn't tell me huh? Wow"

"I didn't know she was cheating on you, if I knew I'd tell you" he scoffs a little

"I swear on my parents" I say looking at him

His head turns to me, his eyes on mine

"Why did she do that?" he asks

"I don't know, I am so sorry that it hurts"

he chuckles a little before he opens the little compartment in his car grabbing a box of my favourite mints from there, we actually got some this morning from the grocery store

"That's the thing little monster"

"Do not call me that" I mumble glaring at him

"You are a monster"

"I was talking about calling me little because I am not little, my height is in the average spectrum you big ass giraffe"

"I am not upset or angry for some reason" he says handing me a mint

"I thought you were pissed"

"What gave that impression?"

"You yelling 'cabir and little monster'" i mimics his voice

"I was angry because you didn't tell me the truth" he says

"How are you not angry about her cheating on you?"

"Not sure"

"Wait then why am I here?" I ask being confused

"Why do you think you are here?" He asks

I swear to god, this man answers questions with questions and no answers

"So you could eat me alive"

"I don't eat humans"

"Oh that is a lie, you said you'd feed me to giraffes and you are a giraffe so that means you wanted to have a meal and I was the food"

"Why the fuck do you think like this?" He asks

"I was born different"

"Right, because your feet came out first" I giggle hearing him

"I pinky promise you that I didn't know and if I did, I would have told you" I mumble

"I trust you" his words make my heart flutter and it shouldn't but it does

I shouldn't feel this way about him yet all of me feels something, everything,

The last time I felt something was when I was 7. Mumma, papa and I were going to the most beautiful place, Disneyland but we never made it. I remember falling a sleep but then after that I woke up in a hospital.

"But thats not why I brought you here" his words distract me

"Then why am I here?" I ask now knowing what was going on

"Veebha, she yelled at you" he comments

"Hahaha wait is that why you brought me here?" I ask laughing

I don't know why he thought it was something new

"Has she done that before?"

"Oh yeah, it's everyday, why?"

"But she speaks very highly of you, she even comforted you that one time when I yelled at you"

"Manik haha you are okay right?" I ask touching his arm

he glares in response obviously, I wonder if I could paint a giraffe with a glare

"What?"

"She yells you at everyday?"

"Well mostly I guess, but thats okay I make a lot of mistakes" I say like it's no big deal because it really isn't

when he doesn't say anything I realize he is thinking

"Chacha chachi are doing me a favour, they have been ever since they brought me to live with them so veebha di yelling at me is literally nothing plus who cares"

He stares at me with blankness in his eyes.

I don't think I have ever seen his eyes this blank before, I have seen multiple things in his eyes, anger being the very first thing, followed by his 'only stare if you dare' look.

"Has there ever been a time where veebha didn't let you eat?"he asks and thats when I froze

My brain runs in every single direction it could as I try to find something, anything to distract this conversation so I think of the best god damn excuse but there is nothing that comes to mind

"Do you like that music prof?" I ask him

"She is fine"

"I find her beautiful, but she also seems strict, you know who I don't like, that one lyric teacher"

"Yeah, anything else you wanna say to distract this conversation? Or should we get on to the right conversation?" He asks

"Ahhh nooooo I wanna go homeee" I mumble turning my head away from me
