Sweater Weather - Spencer Reid FanFic

XIII ~ Distant

*TIME SKIP (SEASON 10 REID 4 me but its ur choice just for the description)*

Spencer and Adeline were really close but just as they were getting closer, Spencer kept getting caught up in serious cases to a point there was never enough time for him to spend with Adeline because once he got back home all he wanted to do was sleep, and while he was resting Adeline was thinking she did something wrong and he was ghosting her.

Obviously that hurt Adeline but after a month of taking it as some kind of break up she finally 'got over it', quit her job and made a bunch of new friends; two brunette girls named Zoie who dyed the bottom half of her hair a dark red and Kali were the ones closest to Adeline and knew about her and Spencer's situation as well as what happened at her old work place (the diner).

The cops told Adeline it was nothing serious and the not was not aimed at her but boy are they wrong...

Adeline didn't really know what she wanted to do now she quit working at the diner, Zoie and Kali were with her trying to help but they were also blank on what to do.

Zoie sighs as she takes the remote and turns on the TV, watching whatever was playing. Adeline had more than enough money for herself but she didn't want to depend on it 24/7.

Meanwhile... Hotch walks into the briefing room as everyone sat down, ready to talk about the latest case, there in Virginia "two women in their twenties were found dead, the cause of death was a slit to the throat.. we believe they were kept for at least ten hours before they were killed" Hotch then brings out files for everyone to take one each of two brunette victims found dead and the crime scene.

"We have no lead whatsoever but we do know the unsub seems to have a pattern and they may have a daughter, this unsub seems to seek attention because they left notes on both scenes but its some sort of poem puzzle" Hotch and everyone else glance at Reid.

Spencer looks up at all of them and purses his lips as he pulls out the two photos of the letters "It's an old French ballad.. a woman that loses her daughter and goes insane" Spencer murmurs and looks up to see everyone deep in thought.

"so it's a woman?" Derek furrows his eyebrows and Prentiss slightly shakes her head

"We can't rule out the fact it may be a man.. he might be trying to throw us off with this" She sighs and looks up too. Spencer noticed something about the note, it was printed but the font was the same, the exact same as the one that was left in Adeline's work locker...

"there was also something weird found on the bodies... so on the crime scene photos the girls had a beauty mark on their necks but when we visited the forensic pathologist for the autopsy results they said the beauty mark was drawn on as well as a fake birthmark on the victim's lower back" Hotch puts more photos up on the board.

"so the unsub is playing out some kind of fantasy? Out of anger, maybe annoyed by rejection?" JJ chimes in and the room went silent as they all went deep in thought.

Zoie walks back into the study where Kali and Adeline sat "you both need to see this" she pulls both of the girls up and leads them to Adeline's living room as the trio stand behind the couch watching JJ on the news.

"What-" Adeline was about to ask what was going on but Zoie shushes her and whispers for Adeline to listen first, Adeline gulps and slowly nods as the news channel speak on about two gruesome murders before going back to the live recording of JJ talking again about a missing woman and a search being held the next day early in the morning for another missing brunette as Rossi stands beside her.

"thats enough" Kali shuts off the TV.

Silence washed over the room and no one broke the silence for a while and Adeline got sick of it "how about we go to the park and join? I mean it's not far from here and they could use our help" Zoie suggest and Adeline tenses, she didn't know why Spencer was the first person that popped up in her mind when she said that... what if she saw him there? He'd be there for sure.

"go without me" Adeline mutters and fiddles with her rings and the two friends glance at each other and back at Adeline with knowing looks making her look up. "before you ask.. yeah" she murmurs and sighs. "he doesn't want to see me! He ghosted me! did I do something wrong.. did he know I had a teeny crouch on him and thought I was weird?" Adeline over shares and she didn't just have a teeny crush on Spencer.

"Okay, calm down" Kali chuckles and pats Adeline's head which she hated but didn't mind since Kali was one of her best friends. "you're coming" She deadpans and Adeline mentally rolls her eyes because she knew she'd avoid Spencer as much as she could and not focus on the real reason they're at the search party.
