It was that night as he and Reed were snuggled into their very uncomfortable cabin bed that Theo's mind began to think.

And think.

As well as worry. Worry a lot.

After the delicious lunch where Mary Davis had indeed out done herself with enough food to feed a starving Army or two he and an equally concerned Matt had went to Kelly Davis to learn more about these murders. The small woman with the thin blonde hair and piercing eyes had looked them over for a long time as she puffed on her cigarette. Then she had nodded. She told them what the local sheriff had told her earlier. That a young couple had been found by a maid tortured and dead in the honeymoon cabin at the very place they were staying. Neither he nor Matt had been thrilled to hear any of it. Especially when Kelly told them that the sheriff was not real experienced with murder. The last killing in Rocky Creek had been sixty years ago and was a drunken man who actually shot himself to death with a hunting rifle one night. Kelly had started googling on her Android phone where she pulled up information. Apparently there were a couple of similar crimes in neighboring Ohio and Pennsylvania over the last several months. Crimes identical to the one at the Inn. Of course, she grudgingly said , that Rudy was right in saying all the couples had been opposite sex. As terrible as the murders were Winnie and Dennis didn't seem like the type of couple being targeted.

Winnie and Dennis had enjoyed the night though. The young couple had entertained everyone and maybe won over some hearts by playing and singing old church songs at the family's old battered upright piano. Their voices seemed to fit each other. Like they were one person.

Kelly had also mentioned the wedding was attracting a lot of gossip and media attention. Not all of it good or positive. She didn't say much about that though.

And then Matt met the Cake Woman. When Mary introduced them The Cake Woman aka Pearl had snarled," Now . Mary , you know my cakes have to be better than this little man ! I've taken blue ribbons ! Why I've been written up in The Miner ! "

Matt had not been amused. From the look in his green eyes Theo knew it was on. May the best cake diva win. Although the moment that Theo bit into the oddly pineapple cake with coconut frosting that Pearl had served after dinner he knew his best friend had nothing to worry about. Even the dog wouldn't eat it.

Reed kissed the back of Theo's neck. He wondered why Theo was so tense. Then he remembered. Shit. Those killings that took place in this town and at the same location they were now staying. Reed wished that Winnie and Dennis had just eloped. But at least Theo and Matt wouldn't get all tangled up in this matter. Reed was secretly proud of his husband's crime solving talents but he deeply worried about him. He was so afraid that one day Theo's luck would run out and he would end up....... Reed tightened his hold on Theo who still was awake and worried. Nothing would happen to Theo , Reed thought. Especially not with this case. After all what reason would involve him in it?
