Dennis brushed out his husband's long hair every day. He kissed his forehead gently every morning as they awoke. He held him as they fell asleep every night.

Saint and Matt came by regularly with Livvie to check on Winnie. Saint talked about politics and sports with Dennis while Matt nearly force feed Winnie his homemade bread and jelly. Winnie ate but never spoke.

Reed stopped by one day with a squirming grey kitten Benji had found one rainy night. He placed it on Winnie's blanket covered lap and was overjoyed to see his son's lips twitching in a small smile. Winnie rubbed the purring cat and said ," Sunshine. " Then he fell back into silence.

Theo sat beside Winnie on the sofa in Winnie and Dennis' apartment. His head was lowered. He held Winnie's hand. " I'm sorry. I'm sorry I didn't figure it out faster. I'm sorry I didn't get the sheriff there faster. "

He felt a shaky squeeze on his hand and looked up to see Winnie smiling at him. Theo smiled back, saying," I know you're in there, Winston. I know you just need rest. It's ok. Rest up, my strong brave son. Come back to those who love you when you're ready. When you are better than ever. "

Winnie Palmer Davis woke up one morning two months after the kidnapping. He rolled over in his queen size bed to see Dennis looking at him with eyes of concern and deep love. Winnie smiled. " I love you, Dennis Davis. "

Dennis smiled back. " I love you too. I missed your voice. "
