KING'S MEMORY:

"So, you'll be able to make it?" Y/n asks me, and I give her a thumbs up. "Of course! I know how much your team means to you, so I'll make sure to give a hand," I tell her. She smiles, looking relieved and happy.

Seeing her happy is something that will never stop warming my heart. I'll do anything to make her keep smiling. That's just the type of friendship we have. We look out for each other when we need it most, and this was one of those times. "Thank youuu! I'll send you the details to the place, but don't be late and bring your old uniform," she requests, making me cringe.

"Those hideous things? The new ones look way cooler than those rags," I point out, but she shrugs it off. "You say 'rags' like you don't have yours framed in your room," she retorts.

"That's different! I got mine signed at the time, so its value went up," I defend, and she rolls her eyes. "What do you want to order, anyway?" she asks, reminding me that I'm holding her up at her job in the cafe.

"Um, just the usual is fine," I say, and she heads to the counter to make my coffee. I watch her walk off before feeling my phone vibrate with a notification.

I raise my eyebrow at her message, knowing nothing good ever comes out of Kai's plans, but I respond anyway. Kai and I became close because of our adoption centre. I still remember the day she arrived. She was quiet at most, but did give the carers a hard time trying to tame her. Honestly, I found her hilarious. We would always sneak down late into the kitchen for snacks or set up pranks for the other kids, until she was transferred again. Though we still kept in touch. She was real family.

No, you bum, she can't, and that's why they asked me!! There are newbies joining volleyball now, so the new manager contacted Y/n to help her organise a training camp for the week. She flew all the way down from the UK, so I can't stand her up when I promised <3 She only needs help for the last day, so don't worry. I'm yours for the rest of the week xx

I look at her message again and bit my lip. I noticed she always felt funny about Y/n because of how close we were. It's not like I have a favourite or neglect anyone. I just feel that Kai has always struggled with making connections last and feels like abandonment and betrayal are always the options, regardless of how much loyalty I show her.

It's not like it bothered me or I found her too much. I love everything about her. She's asked me about meeting Y/n before, but knowing Kai, it was to compare herself and find a way she seemed more superior. I don't think Y/n would feel comfortable if everything felt like a competition too, so it's better to keep both lives separate. Trios never work out anyway.
