my brother was let out of the pit and was planning on going into the maze with minho.
they glanced at the opening maze, blistering air passing through.
i walk over to him, despite having gally yell at me to get to work.

i grab his shoulder pulling him back. "how many times are you going to go in that maze, i'm afraid for your life."
i taps my shoulder, consoling me. "it's ok. i'm a fast runner."

both minho and him set out running, guiding themselves quickly through the walls, leaving me left speechless and alone.

my hands run through my hair in annoyance.
gally strolled over to me, i put my hand out to me. "i'm not doing any work today gally. i've already got enough on my plate right now!"

he opened his mouth calmly. "i just wanted to say that you don't have to do any work if you're that upset and stressed about your brother."

i look at him speechless.
"a thank you would be kindly enough."
"thank you." i spit, exhaling a breath of relief.

gally returns to the builders. i pace around the entrance of the maze, overthinking the smallest situations that could happen.

my heart sinked as soon as i heard loud noises coming from the glade, it sounded like the walls were crumbling down. the sounds also caught a lot of the gladers. gally returned to me confused. "what's going on?"

i shook my head and bit my tongue. "i don't know."

my brother comes running into the glade with minho by his head, completely out of breath.
"what the hell happened out there?!"
i ask.

they both quickly walk in front of the crowd, everyone tails them with questions.

my brother spoke up. "we found something. a new passage; it could be our way out."

gally moved in angrily, i attempt to push him away, he just brushes past me to get to my brother. "this greenie doesn't know what he's doing. as usual."

he turned to gally in anger, stopping the crowd. "yeah. well, at least i did something gally. what have you done? huh? aside from hide behind these walls all the time."

gally pounces back with the same angry, pointing his finger towards his chest. "let me tell you something greenie. you've been here three days, alright? i've been here three years!"

he snaps back, much more aggressively. "you've been here three years and you're still here gally!"

they begin to verbally attack each other as teresa yells over the commotion, eventually grabbing attention. "guys! alby's awake."

we approach the medjack seeing alby sat upright. shivers ran down my spine. my brother touched my back to calm me.

thomas knelt beside him. "hey alby. we may have just found a way out of the maze."

he sat in silence for a few moments, he eventually spoke, he stares off into the ground with tears in his eyes. "he can't." he said.
"we can't leave."
"i remember."

thomas peered back at us then back to alby, his mouth parted. "what do you remember?"
alby turned his head to look to thomas.
"you." he spoke softly.

alby continuously asked thomas eerie questions that made my body quiver.
everyone's attention returned to the shouting from outside the glade.

my brother walked over to winston who was running into a hurry with a torch. "hey, what's going on?"
he gulped. "the doors. they aren't closing."

gally stares at the walls in despair, i looked towards him, following him as we ran up to the walls, where the group was holding torches for a better look.

the loud ear breaking walls rumble the floor, the night wasn't even full so we could see somewhat well; the doors to the wall began to open and the group was panicking.

the grievers frittering echoed the walls as they crept through the walls. i look over to the screaming gladers, yelling. "GRIEVERS! RUN!"

my brother spoke up. "chuck go to council hall. winston you go with him. everybody else GO HIDE NOW!"

i stood frozen in shock seeing a griever for the first time, it made my blood boil.

i took a look behind me only seeing gally and a few other boys. gally grabbed my hand, leading me to the pit. he pulled me down and closed the crate door.

i scurried to the corner and curled myself up into a ball whilst gally stood firmly maning the door.

my heart was pumping through with adrenaline.

if something happened to my brother i don't know whether i'll forgive myself or not.

i could hear the grievers screaming in the midst of the gladers yelling for help.

gally pants his breath from running, he notices me in the middle of a panic attack.

i tried to hold my breath as quietly as i could. he crawled towards me, with his torch.
he whispers. "please be quiet. i know you're panicking right now, but it might just save our lives."

i held my chest, counting my breaths, i managed to calm down, until i hear silence. that's the worst you could ever hear.

gally moves his arm closer to me, he sat in front of me, just glaring at the floor. i could feel the pain in his eyes as he hears the aches and screams from the fellow gladers.

something came over me, whether it's the adrenaline rush or the fear that i'll die, but i grabbed his face and kissed him. he closed his eyes in shock but leant into the kiss.

soon enough i was pulling away with my forehead against his.
he gulped through his throat. "what was that for?"

my voice cracked. "i didn't want to die without saying thank you for saving my life."
he cracked a smile, pulling apart from me and leaning against a canister.

time went by quickly and the grievers roars had left quickly. gally looked at me, then looked at the door to the hutch.
