Jamie's pov

I stirred from my light sleep to the sound of unfamiliar feet walking near me. I knew who it was before I opened my eyes she's had barely slept and her sighs could be heard from he top of the tree near her tent where I had chosen to watch her from. It was a safe distance away from the temptress yet close enough where I could hear her breathing.

My brothers always said I was part animal and I believed them since I didn't get along well with many humans other than my brothers. our people were rough and while I was one of them at the same time I knew the whispers and the rumors about me throughout the camp. I was the found child who no one knew where it came from, the anomaly, the cursed as I was called. But I was useful and you keep what kill in the world of the Vikings and while I don't remember my life before I was found I do know that my skills lent me a hand in this life of vikings.

I had never wanted anything before until this woman appeared. She had a haunting presence, as if something about her was similar to me. I couldn't put my finger on it but I knew when I was close to her I felt overwhelmed and alive. I watched as she walked towards a hill on the side of the camp, I also knew that the hill had a view of the ocean. I wish I knew if she wanted that other one to come or not.

Sighing once she got out of ear shot I swung down the branch and landed silently to the ground in a crouch and followed her. While us Vikings had dominion over this territory at present it didn't mean that an enemy might not attack her thinking she is vulnerable or even our own men just wanting a taste of her. She was something exotic and drew very and eye, it didn't shock me that one of my brothers wanted her what shocked me was that my elder brothers didn't want her.

She stopped at the top of the hill and looked out into the ocean before turning and looking back towards the camp. A fearful thought of what if she runs crossed my mind, not that I couldn't catch her but that she would rather run from me than stay and let me protect her.

But she didn't bolt. She didn't move at all she was like a statue and in my trace of her I took a step forward and made a small noise. Her head snapped so fast in my direction. I watched as the fear left her eyes when she saw that it was me and not someone else. She relaxed, well that's good that she isn't scared of me.

"What are you doing?" I asked in a dry tone trying not to sound nervous about her being out here.

She gave me a look that read sorry but I had to before answering, "isn't the sea pretty. It was always so calming to me as a child to watch the waves. And now I find that I need some of that inner peace now."

"Worried about him?" I know I sound pissed but I can't help it, she's thinking of him.

She gives me a look that i didn't comprehend, "I was actually thing of you." I suck in a deep breath, "and how unfair it is that you get saddled with me and my protection, and wondering what will become of me."

"Don't you think he will came for you." I couldn't help but ask.

She shakes her head, "no his loyalty is to his King, not me, he will grief for me but I don't think he will come for me. I gave up on that thought when the men had pulled me onto the boat."

I pulled her into my arms, not a sexual hug but more of a comforting one, I wanted her to know I was here for her, I wanted to say that I would go anywhere, do anything to protect her, but I knew right now she didn't want those words. So I held her and left her have her thoughts.

She snuggled into me and sniffed every now and again letting me know she was crying but other than that we stood there in silence.

...

When she finally pulled away from me I looked away from her beautiful face as she wiped her eyes giving her some privacy. She gave one last look at the ocean and the sun rise before saying, "time to go back before they miss us."

"They won't miss me and when they find you are gone they will know where I am." I said as I turned to go back.

"They won't miss you, not even your brothers?" She asked with concern in her voice.

"I was found, I'm not there real brother and the clan treats me like an outsider still, even though it's been years." I said evenly watching her reaction.

"So we are the same." she said in a melancholy tone.

I looked at her waiting for her to elaborate and when she saw the look I was giving her added, "alone in this world."

I couldn't say anything to this not because I didn't have any thing to say but because of the trumpet that went off in the distance signaling that something approached the camp.

"What's ..." She began before I put my finger up silencing her as I pulled her into cover and behind me as we made our way back to the relative safety of the camp.

She followed noticing the difference in the way I was behaving and was silent for that I was thankful I hated that I let a scout pass me unnoticed by me as I was enchanted my her. The scout had passed and the second time going to report what he found was heard by me and I needed to earn my brothers of this, an ambush was happening. No one dared oppose us in these lands and I wondered if the green eyed beauty was the reason that they had gotten so bold.

All I knew is that a fight was coming!
