Chapter 4

Matt's P.O.V

I'm sitting in second period right now. I have math. I would say that I'm pretty good at math, but it isn't my favorite.

I notice that someone had sat beside me. A girl around my height with short lilac hair. She turns to face me, holding out her hand.

"Hi! I'm Amity, I'm assuming your new here?" She says with a kind smile.

"Matt." I return, shaking her hand. "And yeah I'm new."

"Oh thats cool! Where did you transfer from?"

"Oh uhh, I transfered from Glandus." I respond nervously, looking down at my hands.

"Ohh. I've heard of that school. Apparently it isn't the nicest place.." She responds, her face dropping a bit.

"Uh no not really. That's why I transferred." I reply, looking back at her.

"Well I'm glad you did." She says before looking back to the front of the classroom.

I sigh, looking down at my hands. Suddenly all I can think about is that kid from last period. He seemed... interesting for sure. I don't know how to describe it.

"Alright class, I will be handing out a pop quiz, you will have 40 minutes to complete it." Mr Deamonne says with a sigh, starting to hand out papers.

I panic, what have they even been doing in class recently?!
"Uh Amity.. what have you guys been doing in class recently?" I ask hurriedly in a hushed voice.

"Oh uh, we've been doing algebra. Nothing that difficult." She responds, looking over at me and giving a reassuring smile.

"Oh okay, thanks." I say as I get my paper. It doesn't look too bad.

I finish my test and stand up to hand it in. I walk up to the teachers desk and hand in my work. Mr Deamonne looks up at me and sighs.
"Oh God, I forgot we had a new student today. Sorry for giving you a test as soon as you got here." He says.

"Oh its fine, this is easy anyways." I respond before walking back to my seat. Amity had already finished her test a few minutes prior to me and was doodling 'The Good Witch Azura' characters on a loose piece of paper.
"Hey Matt." She whispers in my ear, trying not to be too loud because others are still doing a test.

"Mhm?" I reply.

"Are you sitting with anyone at lunch?" She asks.

"Oh yeah, I'm sitting with this guy in my history class. His name is Gus."

"Oh I know Gus! He sits with my friend group at lunch!" She says enthusiastically, still trying to be quiet.

"Oh! That's cool, how many people usually sit with you guys at lunch?" I ask nervously.

"Uhh let me count.. like 10 or 11 usually?"

"Oh thats a pretty big friend group.." I respond.

"Uh yeah I guess it is..." She says. "Anyways, I'll walk to lunch with you, show you where we sit then."

"sure I gue-" I try to reply before getting caught off by the bell. I grab my bag off the floor and stand up.

"Okay great, follow me!" Amity says before starting to walk out of the classroom.

I follow Amity to the lunchroom, she walks really fast so it was hard to keep up though. we eventually make it to a empty table. I sit down across from Amity and open up my backpack, grabbing one of the apples that Steve bought me yesterday.

"Hey Amity!" I hear a voice from behind me say.

"Hey Luz!" Amity responds, smiling widely before hugging Luz. So I guess her name is Luz, got it.

"Hi Matt! I guess you met Amity already!" I hear Gus say as he sits beside me.

"Oh uh, yeah I did." I reply to him before biting into my apple.

"Oh, oh, your Matt right?!" Luz asks. "Gus was talking about you in class!"

I look over at Gus, who was giving Luz the death stare and shaking his head. I can't help but laugh a little.

"Hey guys!" I hear a loud voice say beside me, It's coming from a taller girl with bright pink hair and blue eyes. She sits down beside Amity before immediately starting to talk her ear off about the soccer game last night.

"And you know Bria from Glandus right? She stole the ba-" She stops as she spots me.

I freeze at the sound of Bria's name. Staring back at the pink haired girl.

"Uhh, who are you, I've never seen you around before?" She asks, confused expression on her face.

I take a deep breath before responding to her.
"My name is Matt, I just transferred from Glandus."

"Oh, sorry for bringing up your old school. Anyways, my name is Boscha, and this is my Girlfriend Skara." She says as she points over at the girl sitting beside her. I didn't even notice her coming over.

"Nice to meet you guys, and it's okay." I respond, giving them a fake smile before taking another bite of my apple.

One by one, more and more people come and sit down at our table. Next was this tall  blonde kid named Hunter, after him was this short blue haired girl named Willow, who seemed to be good friends with Gus. After Willow came the Blight twins, accompanied by Viney and Jerbo.

I was talking to Hunter when I hear Amity saying my name.

"Hey Matt, Do you want to come over to my house tonight? We are all hanging out together later." Amity asks me.

"Uhh.. I don't know how I would get there." I respond.

"Oh I could drive you," Hunter says "I'm already driving Gus anyways."

"Oh really? Thank you. But wait I have to call my brother to see if it's okay or not." I say, grabbing my phone out of my backpack.

"Mkay" Amity says before turning to talk to Luz again.

I find Steve's contact in my phone. It's not hard because it's the only contact in my phone, a hit call.

"Hey Matty, what's up?" I hear him say through the phone.

"I was just wondering if I could go to my friends house after school today." I ask.

"Oh you got friends already! But yes, you can, and you don't need to ask. Do you need a ride?"

"No I have a ride. But thanks." I respond.

"Okay! Well I'm leaving for college again tonight, I'll leave a meal for you in the microwave and I'll see you when I come back!"

"Oh yeah, forgot about that. I'll see you when I see you I guess." I sigh before hanging up the phone and putting it back into my bag.

"He said it was okay." I mumble, focusing on a spot of the table.

"Great!" Amity says, not really taking her eyes off of Luz.

"Hey Matt, are you okay? Your mood dropped really suddenly." Gus said, looking at me with a concerned expression.

"Yeah I'm fine." I mutter as I turn to look at him "It's jut my brother is going back to college and I won't see him for awhile."

"Oh, well I don't really know how to respond to that.. I'm a only child..." He says as he rubs the back of his neck with his hand.

"Oh thats okay" I respond to him, giving a reassuring smile. I can see him going a bit red and I give a small laugh before looking away from him.
