Waiting

The rest of the week goes by extremely fast. I love my job in Boston. Everyone is so sweet and welcoming. It's already Tuesday. Tuesday came so quickly I couldn't believe it. The Blackhawks have played 2 other games since I last talked to Jonathan. And they lost both. They lost to the Penguins 3-1 and to the Islanders 2-1. And guess who played bad. Yep, Patrick has not had a good game ever since I left and everyone knows he hasn't played good because of me. I'm kind of hoping he steps it up tonight since I'm going. It's 5:00 and I'm supposed to be meeting the girls at Panera at 5:30. I leave my house in a plain black tshirt with skinny jeans and my brown high boots. I wore a black shirt because I didn't know who to cheer for. I wanted to wear a Bruins shirt because I'm from my Boston and it's my home. But I wanted to wear a Hawks shirt because my ex-boyfriend is on the team and I guess you could say that I still love him. I walk into Panera and order my usual. You pick 2 with chicken Caesar salad and grilled cheese with ham. I get a strawberry smoothie and double fudge brownie because I like to eat a lot when I'm nervous and I'm extremely nervous for this game tonight. I move to the side so that the person behind me can order. I get my drink and now I'm waiting for my food. As I'm waiting I hear three loud squeals that hurt my ears. I jerk my head to the side because I can tell by the squeals who it is. I put my drink on the counter and hug each of them so tight. After we've had our exchange of hugs and hellos my food is ready. I grab my food and drink and find a table for four. I wait patiently before eating so that I don't eat without the girls. While I'm waiting I get a text message from Jonathan.

"Hey you better be coming tonight. It's about damn time Patrick gets out of his slump."

I didn't know that Patrick knew I was coming?

"He knows I'm coming?"

"Yeah he does and he hasn't been able to shut up about it all week."

I smile at that.

I quickly type back saying, "I'll be there don't worry. Good luck tonight. Get a win. Haven't had one in a while :)."

"Gee I wonder why," Jonathan responds. I giggle a little and put my phone down. Lindsey and Abby come over with their food. Lindsey got the napa almond chicken salad sandwich with a green tea and Abby got chicken tortellini Alfredo with a mango smoothie. Shortly following them is Emma with her BBQ chicken flatbread and lemonade. We all take our seats and dig in. In between each bite one of would say something about how we've been or how much they miss me or how life is going.

Then out of the blue, Abby snaps.
"I can't take this anymore. We all have been dying to ask this. How are you really. Like you and Patrick?"

I gulp down my food and I'm speechless. I don't know what I'm more offended by. The way she said it or the why she looked at me with stern cold eyes. If looks could kill I swear I would've been dead.

"Um honestly," I take a deep breathe before finishing my sentence. "I'm okay. I mean I miss him so much and I hate seeing him play bad but we broke up for the best. Ya know, I was dangerous for him and Ella. For god sake MY ex-boyfriend almost shot both of them and almost hit Patrick with a car-"

"Yeah that you jumped in the way of," Abby fires.

"I know but I just couldn't risk that anymore."

Lindsey rubs my back and says, "What if we told you that Shawn is in jail, in Minnesota."

I stare at her with a pale blank face. That can't be true. How come no one told me sooner?

"Wh-" I can't even speak.

"He's gone. Forever. Now can you please come home?" Emma pleads.

I look around the table at all of their faces. Each of their expressions is a puppy dog face. I giggle and stare down at my empty plate.
