A soft breeze blows across a green field, a blue cloudless sky to match. The sun shines brightly, but the heat isn't troubling. The force of the wind, albeit weak, occasionally carries dried leaves from the nearby forests.
John Kado sits on a wooden chair, at one end of a round table, surrounded by dozens of armed Oragonians, a hostile disposition about them. Kardama sits directly across him, at the opposite end of the table. John stares at the armed northmen, turning around to speak to Kardama afterwards.
John Kado: We, admitably, have not met over the last year, for reasons best known to you. But, be that as it may, is all of this really necessary?
Kardama shrugs his shoulders carefreely.
Kardama: They are humans. They go about war the human way.
Kardama snaps the armed northmen out of sight, placing both his legs on the table. Relishing the privacy, John speaks freely.
John Kado: The king is dead...may he find his way.
Kardama: Interesting development. I already knew about it, but still interesting. That puts you in charge, a big difference in the situation.
John Kado: Yes. Yes, indeed. There is no longer need for war.
Kardama gives a wry smile.
Kardama: Indeed. There is no need because the regent will listen to the appeals of the northern people and respect their right to self-determination.
John Kado gives a stunned look, shaking his head afterwards. He stutters, an effect of speaking too fast.
John Kado: No. This was all caused because of Gregor's actions. I promise better decision-making, e... equality. Better dis...distribution of resources. Everything Gregor did wrong.
Kardama: Nuh-uh, my friend. I have listened well and hard, and these people do not want promises. They clamour for a change of system. They want to elect their leaders. Just like Novali does.
John Kado: But that is the occupier's ideology. No great lord would agree to such a change. It would lead to war.
Kardama: Then, there is your answer.
John punches the table, making it shake.
John Kado: We cannot change the system. It would lead to a total collapse.
Kardama: Do you intend to become king?
John Kado: No. Once this emergency is over, the crown will pass to the child of Gregor who has the most support from the others. That is an election too.
Kardama: None of those bastards will do any better than their father.
John Kado loses his self-control, yelling angrily.
John Kado: And why do you care?! Why do you care?! Ever since you met that boy...that Omero lad, something has shifted...Ever since you found out Toxhiro's lineage still existed. What is this? Some way of making up for what you did all those years ago?! Are you bored again? Now you have decided to play liberator? Is this your chance at some sort of salvation?!
Kardama maintains his cool, his blue eyes fixed on the sky as his cool voice lets out.
Kardama: No. I am not playing. I do not know why, but I have to do this. It just feels like it is my purpose.
John Kado shakes his head, full of regret. He takes a deep breath, calming himself, before muttering in a grave tone.
John Kado: I will not let Malvay be divided.
