We had finally left Colorado behind and were entering the land of mountains and Mormons, Utah. We sped down the highways, getting farther and farther away from Colorado.
It's not that I hated it there, it was gorgeous. But that yurt, the freezing temps, the elevation. It all made my skin crawl. I hated it.
Luckily, Utah was a bit warmer, and we had booked a larger house here, opposed to a cabin. Airbnb for the win! We had determined months ago that we'd use Utah for practicing our set and refining everything we needed for the Battle of the Bands event.
Jasper and I had switched seats for this part of the ride. Logan and I were still on iffy terms, I knew he understood why I rejected his confession, but that didn't make anything less awkward. I had told Jasper that I just wanted to stretch out back there the way he had been for the first half of the trip- and though it took some convincing- he let me switch seats with him until we were done with Utah.
Jasper and Maya had booked a night in this house for us, and as we pulled up to the house, I had secretly thanked whatever God was out there that those two had booked it. The pickiest, most control-freak people in the group had chosen the perfect house for us to stay in.
The house was gorgeous, it looked to be two stories high, with a yellow-ish white exterior and brick accents. It was a beautiful Mediterranean home, and it had separate outdoor areas with outlets that we could practice from while the weather was nice!
It was definitely the best pick for our group. We each got our own room, there were three bathrooms, and a huge kitchen.
We parked in a small driveway off to the side of the house and walked up a stone path leading to the front door. Jasper punched in a code to the door and it unlocked, he held the door open as we walked in.
I took my shoes off and quickly explored the house. It was decorated with creamy colors, with accents that were orange and blue. It was a gorgeous place to stay in a gorgeous state.
"There should be five rooms here, okay?" Jasper said. "So, choose yours fast." He joked.
I speedily ran through more of the house, searching for a room I'd want. I had soon found a small room, with a window that showcased the mountains in the distance, and was decorated quite quaintly. I placed my bag down on the bed and laid down next to it. The bed was plush and soft, it was as if I sunk into it when I laid down, almost like a cloud.
I miss that bed.
It was a peaceful night, but it moved by fast. We made dinner with leftover food from the yurt, we made smores and had a campfire outside like we did the first night in Colorado, and then we hooked up amps, speakers, microphones, and Maya's computer to outlets and our instruments and recorded us trying out our set. We had created our first official album, including all of our favorite songs we had written in the past years.
We called it TO CATCH A DREAM. The name had been decided a week before we had left for the trip, it was originally referred to as our WIP Album.
It featured ten songs, only three of them remained unnamed, and we had no idea what to call them.
We knew that the Battle of the Bands competition would ask us to play a few songs for each level. So we had decided we'd play two or three songs, then the people would vote for who to keep, and if we stayed we'd play the next two or three songs in the album.
I had felt that at the time the album name was something we needed to workshop. Would anyone understand it?
It turns out that most everyone would understand it. Everyone's got a dream to catch.

We left early the next morning, stopping at a gas station for drinks. We had quickly ran through the gas station collecting the things we wanted, and I returned to my seat in the second row as we left Utah behind.
I'll miss you, Utah.
