Logan picked us up from our houses at 7:00. He picked me up first since we're neighbors—and then we traveled around town, picking up Zahra, Jasper, and Maya. We shoved our instruments into the back of the van and put our baggage beneath our legs.
We finally got everyone and everything into the van by 7:30, and we stopped for gas and snacks before leaving Millwood. Logan stayed behind with the van to fill it up as we headed inside to get drinks and snacks for the road.
"Cidney, can you get me some mini-donuts and a Dr. Pepper?" Logan had asked me.
I nodded and flashed him a thumbs-up before running inside with the rest of my friends. I pranced on the linoleum-lined floors and between the metal shelves. I meticulously searched for things I'd enjoy and what Logan would like.
I grab a large bag of chocolate-frosted mini-donuts and a bag of chips before going to the soda machine to get us drinks. I filled up two large cups, one with Dr. Pepper and the other with Coke.
I carefully arranged everything I had in my hands and brought it to check out. I quickly returned to the van, handing Logan his doughnuts and drink before I got myself situated in the van.
"All right," Logan started. "We just have to wait for Maya and Zahra; then we can finally hit the road." He chuckled a bit before closing the door and waiting outside the van for them.
I smiled and turned back to look at Jasper in the third-row seat, "What did you get?"
Jasper smiled at Logan's quip before he looked at me and held up a bag of beef jerky and two bottles of Mountain Dew, "I got...uhh nunya beeswax," He laughed as he placed his things on the seat next to him, avoiding the question.
"Har-dee-har-har, that was so funny. You must be a comedic genius or something," I said sarcastically.
"I am," he quipped.
"Mhm." I hummed as I noticed Maya and Zahra walking back toward the van. I turned back around and buckled my seatbelt.
"Buckle up, they're back," I said, pointing to Maya and Zahra at the front of the van, talking to Logan.
"Ah." Jasper hummed as he leaned back into his seat. I heard a small click before he spoke to me once more.
Maya crawled into the second-row seat next to me,holding an iced coffee and a bag of Chex Mix. She slid her coffee into the cup holder and placed her snack onto her lap as she buckled up.
"What'd you get, Zahra?" I asked her as she entered the passenger seat of the van.
"A coffee, a bottle of water, and two fresh donuts," she responded.
I grinned. "I got a Coke and some chips, I probably should've gotten something more breakfast-ey though." I laughed a bit. "I did eat earlier, though."
Logan finally got inside the van. He turned it on before he turned around to look at everyone behind him.
"Everyone buckled?"
"Yup," Maya affirmed.
"Mhm," Jasper and I hummed in response.
A soft click was heard as Zahra buckled up, Logan turned back around, buckled his seat belt, and started to pull out of the gas station and onto the road.
"Can I connect my phone to the aux?" Maya asked.
"Mhm, just don't play it too loud, I have to listen to the navigator tell us where we're going." He laughed a bit as he handed the aux cord back to Maya.
"Wha- maybe I wanna play aux!" Jasper interrupted.
"The cord doesn't reach that far back," Maya noted.
