We had driven for about two more hours before we made it to Omaha, Nebraska. A large city filled with millions of tourist traps and stores. Logan pulled into the hotel's parking lot and turned back to look at us.
"I didn't tell you guys, but I planned for us to stay here for the night, and we can go to the zoo today! Then we can eat some grub, take showers, sleep, and head onto Wyoming tomorrow!"
We all looked at him, mixed emotions present on our faces.
"You bought the rooms all by yourself?" Zahra asked.
"Mhm! Two of them!"
"And the tickets?" I added.
"Yup! All five of them."
"You know, we would've paid part of it all!" Jasper yelled. "You didn't have to spend all your money on us!"
"I wanted to surprise you guys," Logan rationalized. He all looked back at us, a huge grin plastered on his face as he waited for our reactions to the plan.
"Well, it sounds like a super cool plan," I said.
"Yeah!" Maya agreed.
"Alright, we can check-in, and then I'll drive us to the zoo," Logan said, turning the van off. "Also, don't worry about the instruments. Just keep them in here," he added as he opened the door to the driver's seat and walked around the van. Shutting the door behind him.
Everyone turned to look at me. "Did you know he planned this?" Jasper asked me in a hushed voice.
"No?"
"Are you sure? You're his best friend, you had to know something," Maya adds.
"I didn't know he did this," I paused, "or was even planning on taking us through Omaha," I said.
"Because! If you had known, you should've let us know so we could help pay." Jasper's voice got a bit louder the longer he spoke.
"Well, I didn't know, and he paid for it all by himself. Can't you just be grateful he did something nice?"
"We are grateful! We just don't want him paying for the whole thing himself!" Zahra intruded into the small argument.
Logan opens the trunk to the van, he cranes his neck forward to look at us, "Hey, there's also a candy store nearby we can stop at, if you guys are interested!"
Everyone looked back at him, smiling and nodding.
"Yeah! That sounds great!"
"Mm, yeah!"
"Mhm!"
Zahra redirected her attention to look at all of us, "He's going out of his way to do an awful lot for us, did we do something?"
"I don't think so, just let him do what he wants," I said as I opened the door to the van. I grabbed my bag, walked around to the back of the van, and grabbed my other things out of the trunk.
"What if he's trying to get us to like him more?" Jasper added as I grabbed my things.
"Why would he feel like he has to do that?" I asked.
"It's just a what-if!"
"Mhm." I hummed as I closed the trunk door to the van. I began to walk towards the front of the hotel, quickly catching up with Logan to check into our rooms.
The inside of the hotel was cold and modern, yet comfortable. I walked up next to Logan as he was checking in with a kind girl at the front desk.
Her name tag had bulky capital letters that spelled out "NAILA."
