Swimming & Transfiguration

Today is the first day where our class will be with the Hufflepuffs. I get ready as usual and go down to breakfast. I sit next to Juliet and have a quiet conservation about how strict McGonagall will be.

We don't have Transfiguration till 12:55 pm. Us first year Ravenclaws have a free period including Lunch till we have to head the 5th floor. I can probably just stay in Ravenclaw Tower before going down to class.

Although, it's a bit warm outside and I do want to head to the Black Lake to test the water temperature. I want to do some swimming today and some running tomorrow. After Breakfast, I head outside to the Black Lake and test the water. 72 Fahrenheit (22.2 Celsius). Not too cold. My Great-Grandparents who live in Norway have this tradition where taking an ice bath, or an icy swim can help with health. Even though it doesn't sound good at all, we do it anyway. I head back to my dorm to grab a towel, sunblock, and my swimsuit. I put on some sunblock and my swimsuit and then put my robe over my body.

My swimsuit is a grey one piece. Pretty basic, but when it tends to get colder for an ice bath, I'll wear a long sleeve black one piece.

I head down to the beach-like part of the lake and think about how many miles I can do. I turn on my waterproof watch and start the timer. I walk into the lake and start swimming. I swim for awhile and when I needed to rest, I just floated on my back. After resting for like 2 minutes, I went back to swimming. The sun comes out more from behind the clouds and warms the surface of the water. I go a little while longer and then turn back around to swim back to the lake's shore.

I climb out of the water and dry off my hair. I step into my waterproof shoes and head back to the castle. I walk to my dorm only passing a few students as I head to the Tower. I answer the riddle the eagle gives me and step through the doors. I go up the staircases to my room. I walk inside to see that Kiada is still asleep in her mini hammock. I head to my bathroom and run the tub. I wash off the sunblock and wash and rinse my hair from the lake water. I get out the tub and dry off. I lightly later some lavender lotion on. When it dries, I change into my school uniform and robe.

I head down to the Great hall for Lunch. I grab a pickle and ham sandwich with an apple. I head downstairs to the Transfiguration classroom. The door is open so I walk in. A beautiful female cat is sleeping on the professor's desk. I sit near the front on the right side of the room. As I set my materials down, the cat wakes up and stares at me. I eat my lunch and watch the cat come towards me. She jumps upon the desk and rubs her head against my elbow. I pull off a piece of ham from my sandwich and give it to her. While she eats the bit of ham, I pet her and she purrs.

"I'm going to call you Tabby. Let's see what time it is. Oh! It's 12:45. I have until 12:55 till Professor McGonagall comes in here. I hope class will be fun, even though it is a serious class to take and you have to be very careful. Want to know what I did before I came here?" I say to Tabby.

Tabby nods her head like a human does. I wonder if she is McGonagall's familiar. I tell Tabby how I had breakfast and went down to the Black Lake for a morning swim. That the water was nice and I swam 3 miles in 30 minutes. I went up back to my dorm, cleaned up, and got back into my uniform. Then I came downstairs to pick up Lunch and lastly, went here to wait for class to start.

Tabby looked at me with wide eyes and raised eyebrows. Or what seems to be her eyebrows. I give her one last rub and went out to the hallway to throw away my apple core. When I walk back in, Professor McGonagall is sitting at her desk.

"Good afternoon Ms. Krum."

"Good afternoon Professor."

"Did you enjoy your lunch?"

"Yes ma'am. I came here to eat, you probably saw my bag when you came in here. I saw a pretty Tabby cat when I walked in. I didn't know if she was your familiar or not, so I named her Tabby. She's a sweet cat. I gave her a bit of ham from my sandwich. I hope she wasn't allergic to it."

"She is not Ms. Krum. She tends to enjoy eating the meat from the sandwiches that comes from the Great Hall."

"What will we be doing for class today?"

"We'll go over the syllabus. I'm guessing your other classes have done this. We will also be learning the Transfiguration alphabet. Be sure to take notes."

The bell rings and students pour in. Juliet sits next to me and we open our journals with our quills next to us to take notes. After Professor McGonagall takes the class roll, she uses her wand to pass out the syllabus. We'll be going over the Transfiguration alphabet, the Transformation formula, Match to Needle, Switching Spell, Mice to Snuffboxes, Avifors Spell, and Flintifors. Everyone has this excited look and starts whispering to each other that we'll actually be doing spells in this class. Well, DUH! What kind of class won't be using spells.

We jot down what Professor McGonagall had written on the blackboard

We jot down what Professor McGonagall had written on the blackboard. It's kinda hard to understand.

Once class is done, everyone leaves while McGonagall politely asks me to stay behind for a minute. "Do you know why I asked you to stay behind Ms. Krum?"

"No ma'am."

"I wanted to let you know that I don't own any familiars. I do own an owl. The cat you're referring to has been in this school for years. Since I came here as a student and came back to teach, that cat has been here. You'll understand what I'm saying. You can go Ms. Krum. Try not to be late to Potions."

I nod my head and leave the room. I walk down the moving staircases to get to Potions. What McGonagall said to me had me thinking. What if she was the cat? Argh! I was petting and scratching my professor on the head! I should apologize right before Dinner.
