Hagrid & Flying

I did apologize to McGonagall yesterday and she forgave me. She said try not to do that again without her permission. I thought I would get a detention or something worse.

I enjoyed Breakfast today, like I did since I got here. Potions went fine this morning. We mainly read our Potions book and answered questions from the passage. After Potions, I went outside and walked to the Quidditch pitch. As I was walking there, a tall man that had led us from the train to boats to go across the lake stepped right in front of me. He had a dog that looked like a Boarhound that was slobbering everywhere.

"Where yer going miss?"

" Sorry sir, I didn't see you there. I was going to the Quidditch pitch to wait for my flying class. I know that it won't happen till a few hours after Lunch, but I was also going there to read outside. It's a nice day today and I wanted to enjoy the sun."

"If you want, you can come and join me fer Lunch in me house."

I nod my head. He introduces himself as Rubeus Hagrid and that I can just call him Hagrid. We walk toward his house and step inside. It looks pretty cozy.

"How do you like yer first year here at 'ogwarts?"

"It's pretty good. Classes are going well. There's not much homework so far. The teachers are quite nice. I have a familiar named Kiada. She is a Romanian Longhorn. She is in my room up in the Ravenclaw Tower. She is the sweetest dragon you'll ever meet."

When I'm done talking with Hagrid, I look at my watch and notice it's near Lunch. I stand up and thank Hagrid for inviting me to his home. He pats me on the head and opens the heavy door to let me out. I head over to the quidditch pitch and sit down in the bleachers. I take out some sausages and an orange that I took from the Great Hall during Breakfast from my bag. I read Fantastic Beast and Where to Find Them while eating my lunch.

Students start appearing around 3:30. I pick up my belongings and walk down to the field. All the first years from each house is on the field in groups. A tall woman walks over with spiky hair and goggles on her forehead.

"My name is Madam Hooch. Everyone stand next to a broom and no stalling!"

We all stand next to a broom and wait for instructions to be said. Madam Hooch tells us to say "up" to our brooms. Most of us immediately have a broom in our hand. Others' brooms are rolling on the ground, or just not moving at all. Hooch tells us to put one leg over the broom and when she says to, she says "push off the ground." She blows her whistle and we all push off the ground. Those that are scared, lower back to the grass, while the rest of us are 5 feet in the air. She lets us know that we can head to 10 feet now. Half of us go back to the ground and watch us go higher. Hooch has a bag of tennis balls attached to her side. She pairs us up and passes each of us a tennis ball and tells the other student we're paired up with to put the other ball in their pocket. We will use that ball if we drop the other one.

She tells us once we each pass it back in forth once, to back up a bit and continue to do that when we can't pass the ball back and forth. I'm paired up with Ashley. We pass the tennis ball back and forth for a few minutes. 10 minutes later, we are about 50 feet apart, and one of the last pairs to still be on their brooms. Hooch come over and asks if we are tired. Ashley tells her that her arms are getting sore and I say that I could do this all day.

Hooch allows Ashley to head back down. She tells me that she will throw the ball as hard as she can across the field and I will have to chase after it. When she throws it, I chase after the ball. I catch it! I probably flew about 200 feet across the field. As I come back, Hooch tells me that the 1st practice for the Ravenclaw team is in early October. So, a few weeks away.

The bell for the end of classes rings and we all set our brooms down and leave. Dinner is in a couple hours, so we all head off to different parts of the castle. I head to the Astronomy Tower to be alone. Well, actually I head to my dorm to pick up Kiada and then head to the Astronomy Tower. Kiada spreads her small wings and flies around the covered area of the tower. I sit down against the wall and just breathe in the fresh air that is coming from the wind that is blowing outside the covered area. I hear footsteps come up the staircase leading to the entrance of the tower. As I look towards the opened door, I see black robes and long black hair covering their face. Snape is here!

Snape walks in and sees Kiada flying around and I just sitting on the floor. "What are you doing up here, may I ask?" he says to me. "Sorry. I came up here to enjoy the silence. I'm not very fond of loud groups of people. Kiada also needed some fresh air. I didn't want people crowding around near us asking to pet my Familiar," I explain to Snape.

After explaining, I whistle a sharp note and my owl, Shadow flies from the Owlery and lands on my shoulder. "This is Shadow. She is my own owl. I've had her since she was a wee chick. She's been in the family for a few years before I came here. My parents had got her for my birthday when I was 7. My birthday is in April. After that, I will have her for 4 years. I love her like a best friend. Like a sister. Same as Kiada. Both of them get along pretty nicely since they've met this year. I thought that Kiada would eat her, but they have somehow bonded together like a sibling bond or something."

Snape just nods when I'm telling him about my Familiar and owl

Snape just nods when I'm telling him about my Familiar and owl. "Are you enjoying your classes so far?"

"They're good. HofM is a bit stupid. Well, actually, not really. Binns is a ghost and he is a bit boring, but the history is interesting. The way Binns teaches is like he doesn't have an off button till the end of class. I just had flying earlier and I love it already. Madam Hooch wants me to come to the first Ravenclaw team practice. I hope that goes well. The other classes are fine. I have Herbology and Astronomy tomorrow as my last classes of the week. I have charms too, but I have done Charms already from earlier this week, so I hope these two classes will be fun."

"You will have to get a good night's sleep tonight because Astronomy will be around 12 to 1 in the morning on Saturday. My first years from last year took a timed nap before Astronomy and then they came here to take the class. Astronomy only happens every other week," he lets me know.

While talking for a bit, the bell sounded for the end of the last class and for everyone to head to the Great Hall for Dinner. "Ah, Dinner time. Kiada!" I call out. Kiada comes flying over and lands on my shoulder. I whistle a low note and Shadow heads off to the Owlery. I head down 6/7 floors toward the Great Hall. Snape follows me down, but heads to the Dungeons instead of going to Dinner.

Dinner was done pretty quickly for me because I wanted to sleep early tonight. Astronomy is the first hour of Saturday and tomorrow's Friday and Friday classes will feel a bit long because it is the first week of term.

I take a nice soak in the tub and get changed into PJ's after the soak. I tie a waterproof robe around me so I could give Kiada a bath. I give her a bath in the sink because it's a lot easier when standing and her necessities are on the counter at arms' reach. I use a scale scrub that makes Kid's scales shine. I have a body lotion for dragons. It's kind of like the ones for us, but it includes stuff that's safe for dragons.

When I'm finished, I brush my teeth and give a teeth-cleaning chew to Kiada. I close the bathroom door and head to my bed. I turn off my lamps and get under the covers. Kiada lays on her pillow with her blanket right next me. I set my neon alarm an hour before breakfast for tomorrow and fall asleep.
