We are in Greenhouse 5 today with the Puffs (Hufflepuffs). Professor Sprout is quite sweet, but she can have a sharp tongue with students don't do what they're told. I had 2 free periods this morning before Herbology. Sprout explained that we will be learning a few spells and going over a lot of plants. Safe and dangerous kinds.

Some of the plants we will be taking care of and learning about can also be used in Potions. Spells: Fire-Making Spell, Severing Charm, and the Lumos Solem Spell. Plants: Venomous Tentacula, Spiky Bush, Bouncing Bulb, Puffapods, Moly, Asphodel, Dried Nettles, Dittany, Wormwood, Mandrake Root, Aconite, and the Devil's Snare.

Technically the Fire-Making Spell is Incendio, but that's what it says on the syllabus. Some plants, like the Devil's Snare, doesn't like the light. So, if you're stuck in a tight hold of Devil's Snare, you can use Incendio to be free from it. I don't know if the spell hurts the plant, or it just makes the plant retract (go away).

For the beginning of this class, we'll be talking about the Venomous Tentacula. We'll continue on  with it next week. Just learning the basics today.

*The type of plant is that it's from the Animal Kingdom. Its description says that this plant creates a strong internal burning sensation which is excruciatingly painful to humans, but can be used to strengthen some beasts, such as dragons. It may also turn one's skin purple.* EV: You can find this info in the 'book' Unofficial 1,000 Magical Herbs and Fungi, Unofficial Encyclopedia of the Wizarding World, Volume 3. You get it off of Amazon.

So, yeah. That's the basics. Not much, but there will be more till next Friday. The bell rings for Lunch and we head off to the Great Hall. Kiada comes in with Hagrid. He watched her for me because I didn't want her accidentally sneezing and setting fire to the plants. She launches off of Hagrid's shoulders when she sees me. She lands on the table scattering the food off my plate. An older student cleans my food with a cleaning spell. I thank him and gather another sandwich with some soup and potatoes. There's a bowl of raw meat and fresh fruit on the table already ready for Kiada. I look at my schedule and saw that we had Charms with the Puffs. Again!

I don't mind. Really. They're very quiet and they do get along with us Ravens. Sometimes the quiet ones can also be the smart ones. Sometimes people underestimate them. If you ever walk into the Library, you might see a group of Ravens and Puffs together. Us Ravens enjoy their silence, while we help them with their notes and assignments. That way they can get their intelligence and we get our peace and quiet.

As Lunch was finishing up, Kiada lets me know to cuddle her by nipping on my ear. I grab her off the table and give her a big squeeze. She purrs with delight. The bell for the class rings. Everyone quickly finishes up Lunch an heads to their next class. I head to Charms. Kiada and I head off to Charms.

We are practicing the Levitation Charm today. Some students have trouble pronouncing the charm. Pronunciation: win-GAR-dee-um lev-ee-OH-sa. We are just practicing the charm today, but on Monday next week, we will be learning the history of the charm. Ravens have Charms twice a week. Monday is with the Griffins. And Friday is with the Puffs. All the other first year classes who have Charms with their scheduled houses are doing the same thing. That way, Professor Flitwick won't have trouble keeping track of assignments from classes that aren't on the same path (just the first years, not the other years).

Charms is done at 1:40 pm today. I head to the Library to get a book for my next Charms class. I check out The History of Charms and Other Facts. This can help me with assignments that Professor Flitwick will assign. I head toward Ravenclaw Tower and talk with Juliet and a few others about our classes and about Astronomy first thing in the morning. We think of a plan where we have dinner, head to the dorm, set our alarms and take a nap, and then get ourselves presentable for Astronomy.

Every first year will probably be sleeping in tomorrow morning. I will not be able to sleep well. I don't tend to sleep well if I am awake late into the night/early morning. I spend my time in the Tower playing several rounds of Exploding Snap. Not just with my friends, but with the older years too. I won a couple. Some of us has minor burn marks from when the cards explode. It doesn't hurt that much, it only stings a little. Dinner comes around and we all head to the Great Hall to eat. I eat a little bit of food because I'm not hungry and I don't really feel well. I never noticed it till I started eating. I chat a little bit and leave when everyone does. I head up to the Tower and fall asleep in my room after setting an alarm 20 minutes till 12 am.

I wake up and get myself ready by washing my face and straightening my hair out and putting it in a messy bun. I walk up to the seventh floor to the Astronomy Tower. There's a few people of there already, but not much. The professor, Professor Sinistra, is passing out Moon Charts and Star Charts to those who have come through the tower door.

Once everyone has come into the tower, Professor Sinistra tells us that we will be learning about Planets, Moons, Constellations, and other topics. Not just the basic planets, but also rogue planets too. We'll be learning about 5 different moons. Just 5. I thought we will learn more than just 5. Sinistra conjures pillows and mats for everyone to lay on to watch the stars. We all bunch up and lay down. The lights are turned off. Our eyes adjust to the dark and once we looked upon the sky, millions to billions of stars are laid out across the sky.

EV: Just the sky, not the rest.

The sky was amazing. I've never seen something like this for a long time. I think the first time I've seen the sky like this was when my parents and I went camping to the top of a mountain somewhere in Russia. My  Great Grandparents live in Russia, while the rest of the family lives in America. We stayed with my Dad's Grandparents for the weekend and thought that a camping trip would be fun for a few days. I was around the age of 3. I don't remember much, but my parents have pictures from trips in a Travel Box in the upstairs closet.

Sinistra pointed out a few common Constellations, like Cassiopeia, Orion's Belt, Gemini, and Leo. I don't think we'll be learning about those this year.

After whispering silently to each other and looking at Scotland's night sky, class has come to an end. We say 'sleep well' to our professor and peers and head to our own Common Rooms and dorms. While I change into my PJ's, I notice that Kiada is laid out on my bed. Her whole body is spread out. I silently use the Levitation Charm and slowly move her to her own mini bed. I slip on the heating blanket over her. I brush my teeth in the bathroom and head back to my bed. I'm not going to set an alarm. I'm just going to wake up when my body decides to.

Sleep well!
