Warning: Mentions of Child Abuse

Azani

Omniscient POV

Azani quickly bolted out of bed and dashed into the kitchen.

She fumbled with the refrigerator door, her hands trembling violently.

Sweat soaked her shirt, her face, and the palms of her hands.

Finally, she managed to grab a water bottle and open it.

As she quickly gulped down the water, her body was still quivering, and her heart raced rapidly in her chest.

In a matter of seconds, she emptied the bottle.

Her breath was unsteady, and she was feeling distraught.

She had no idea when she had fallen asleep, but for the first time in days that she finally did, it was not a good experience.

She stood there, struggling to regain her composure.

Her mind was racing, and she was met with memories that she did not want to remember.

2 hours prior

Azani laid down quietly, her breathing steady and her body completely still.

She was now in-between the state of consciousness and unconsciousness, and she was becoming more and more relaxed as time went by.

"Is this what it feels like to be calm?" she thought to herself.

Her eyes were barely open, and her mind was becoming quiet.

Her eyelids became heavier and heavier until she finally drifted off into a deep slumber.

Flashback

9-Year-Old Azani

Saint Juniors Orphanage

Azani stood there shaking, seamlessly terrified of the constant berating by the caretaker of the orphanage.

She possessed a tall stature paired with overly endowed muscle mass and would often inflict harsh emotional blows and physical abusive punishment on Azani.

She was the exact definition of a monster. She was the root of Azani's suffering and was the main cause of the many nightmares that she would have.

"Azani!" the frightening sound of the womans voice boomed through the hallway.

Azani shivered in fear as tears started to form in her eyes.

She immediately hid underneath her bed and shut her eyes tightly.

A few minutes later, she heard the sound of her room door being pushed open aggressively.

The woman barged in and immediately spotted Azani trying to hide and yanked her from underneath the bed.

"You want to try and hide? I got something for you don't worry."

The woman then left the room for a few minutes before returning with a pair of scissors in her hand.

The woman grabbed Azani hard in the neck and shook her a few times before running the scissors clean against her hair, cutting away almost half of it.

Azani watched with teary eyes as her hair fell to the ground.

"Your nothing and you will never be anything. No one wanted you and no one will ever want you. That's why they all left you here. You're a waste of a human and I will continue to remind you of that, you're a useless child. Your worth nothing".

End of Flashback

Your worth nothing.

The voice rang through Azani's head, over and over.

She grimaced at the painful memories replaying in her head.

Her heart ached and the words cut through her like a double-edged sword.

She sat there on the kitchen floor as hot tears rolled down her cheeks.

Azani held herself to try and soothe the pain that was stirring up on the inside.

She was desperately trying to keep herself together,

Not just physically but mentally.

"I can't take this anymore" she choked out in between tears.
