I grabbed my phone from my night stand and opened up the picture. Immediately my phone's screen was lit up with a beautiful face. She really has grown up into a really pretty girl. There was darkness all around me except the light coming from my phone and her face. How apt, i thought. That's exactly what she was, my ray of light during my dark times. I can't help the memories that come flooding back when i look at the picture.
I met Kia 5 years ago, when we both were just 10 years. My elder sister, Lily and her sister Stacy were the best of friends, practically inseparable and that's how I got to know her. Lily has a great affection for Kia and considers her as a sister, to the extent that she also wishes to adopt her.
She used to come home quite often with Stacy. My family instantly developed a liking for this cute, little girl. She was one of the first girls I actually spoke to nicely. It was that time for me when i really thought it weird to talk to girls. But with her it was different. I didn't feel awkward with her and for sure didn't feel like pushing her away. In fact it was the exact opposite with her. I wanted to spend as much time with her as possible.
Usually Stacy and Lily would get lost in each other's company, leaving poor Kia alone. Once, I offered to play with her and ever since then we started enjoying each other's company. We started playing together more. We used to go the park and sometimes our sisters would also take us to the coffee shop near by. We used to go cycling together too. I even thought her how to play video games.
But this didn't last long. Lily and Stacy had a fight because of which they stopped talking. It was more of a misunderstanding. It felt bad to see their friendships end this way. They were so perfect for each other, they always had each other's backs be it 4 p.m or 4 a.m. Eventually Kia and I too lost contact and until now i never thought about her so much.
But now of a sudden seeing her picture brought back so many memories. I miss her and most importantly our friendship. Apart from Alex, she is the best friend i had ever made. I so wish it lasted longer. She used to understand me so well and i felt so happy around her. Being a fairy tale loving girl, i was her knight for her.
I couldn't stop myself. I scrolled and looked through more pictures of hers. Call me stalker or whatever but i did stalk her. Seeing her smile alone lightened my mood and made me happy.
I went and stood in my balcony, thinking about our childhood memories. The night was so peaceful with soft wind blowing and the sky was full of stars. I kept looking at it when i noticed a shooting star. I never really believed in them. But if i had to give it a chance, i had only one wish in my heart, 'To get back my best friend, Kia.'
