A day has passed, it's Friday morning. I'm lingering around the shop, just tidying things up, Frank isn't saying much. He's been unusually quiet lately. I'm hoping it doesn't have anything to do with Gerard. Speaking of Gerard, he's been trapped in my mind from the moment I went to sleep to the moment I woke up.
"Are you okay, Frank?" I ask, breaking the silence as I organize the books on the bookshelves. It was around four in the morning, we didn't expect too many customers and quite frankly we were a bit burnt out.
"Yeah, yeah. I'm good. Do you have a ride tomorrow? Assuming you're going to the party." He answered after a few seconds of silence, which made me suspect he had something on his mind. I would know, I'm constantly lost in thought.
"I do, yes. Gerard's taking me. I hope you don't mind."
"No, not at all. I'm glad you guys are getting to know each other. Gerard's a cool dude." Frank gives a soft smile and takes a sip from a Red Bull can, leaning up against the counter on the back wall.
I've been doing a bit better with my shifts, my eyes aren't as heavy anymore. I like to think I've become a vampire at this point because I've gotten so used to the night shifts and sleeping in the morning instead of at night. Or maybe the ecstasy of having a crush is giving me life again, I don't know. As I'm finishing up cleaning the shelves, I hear the bell ring on the front door. My heart pounds, I'm half expecting Gerard.
It's not.
However, I wasn't mad that he hadn't tried to visit me today. That was only a fantasy I made up in my head last night, but for some reason, I still wanted to expect it. Yesterday we had great conversations, and we're starting to get to know each other more. Besides, this is only the beginning. I've just been longing for his presence way too much over the past couple of hours.
I inhale deeply, exhaling as I stare up at the ceiling. Frank handles the customer while I take a seat on one of the couches in the back of the shop. Despite my rant on how the night shifts were getting easier, the exhaustion is still there. It's just not as bad as it used to be.
~
We close up at 6:00, and I head home. I've decided to take the day off so that I receive more hours of sleep before this party. I was insanely nervous, anything could happen, I hoped that it would all be good things though, I wanted to be prepared. Once I'm home, I slip into something comfortable and doze off until around 7:00 P.M.
Gerard would be picking me up at 9:00, so I had a good amount of time to get ready. I wanted to make sure I looked my best, so I laid out an outfit and tried it on.
I decided to go with grey ripped denim shorts, and black ripped tights underneath, with a studded belt holding my shorts up, a black cami as the top, with all of my favorite necklaces layered. To not feel too super-insanely uncomfortable, I slip on an old blue-black jacket, and I roll the sleeves up so that my bracelets are visible. I stare at myself from every angle possible in my mirror, questioning if it's too much.
For my makeup and hair, I decided to do something a little simple. I brush out my hair and tie it up into a ponytail, leaving the sides of my hair in the front and teasing my ponytail for more volume. For makeup, I messily apply some concealer over my eyes, chin, below my nose, on my nose, and a little on my cheeks. I top off the look with winged black eyeliner and silver glitter on my eyes. Checking myself out in the mirror, I felt really good about myself. Maybe putting effort into my looks wasn't so bad.
