I stood outside the very familiar restaurant and hoped it was open. It was just before noon and I wasn't sure what kind of hours he kept here.
I got to the door and my heart dropped a little as I read the little sign.
Opens at 4 pm. Shit.
Detriment not to go home I grabbed my phone and texted him hoping that I didn't drive her for no reason.
"Are you at work? I'm outside your door"
A few seconds later I got a text saying he'll be up right away and saw Luka approach the entrance with a confused look on his face.
"Come in, what are you doing here?" He looked concerned and poked his head out behind me.
"Marcus is not here. I came alone" I gave him a smile and walked past him. The fragrance of delicious food hit me right away and the memories of when I was last here flooded back.
"What did he do now?" He chuckled knowingly, "cmon, don't look so surprised. As much as I would love for you to come here because of me, I know better."
"What do you know of Samantha" I watched him closely for some kind of reaction. I wanted to know if he knew she was Marcus's sister?
"I've met her" he chose his words carefully, clearly thinking before he answered. "What do you want to know about her?"
"So you know they're related?" The look of panic that came across his face gave me the answer before he could even reply.
"When did you find out?" He went behind the bar and turned on a fancy looking coffee machine.
"This morning." I took off my jacket and sat on a stool, "I drove around for a bit before coming here. Didn't want to go home"
"So what are you upset about? Coffee?" He asked and began making a couple of cappuccinos .
"No judgments?" He nodded and I continued, "I thought they were sleeping together. I was jealous and upset that he moved on with someone that seemed better in every way. She's stunning, smart, well put together and seemed to have a great connection with him. One that I seem to struggle to have. I just hated her right off the bat."
I put my head in my hands and groaned. I felt like I was some stupid high school girl who couldn't figure her shit out.
"Don't be so hard on yourself, you've gone through a lot and maybe aren't looking at things with a clear head. Also, Marcus isn't exactly the easiest person to read. He doesn't have a lot of people he cares about, but the one that he does mean the world to him. And I'm very positive that you're on the top of that list."
"He didn't even come to the hospital to see me" I wanted to believe luka but it was hard to when I was looking at the facts.
"Yes he did" Luka shook his head and laughed. "You were just too out of it to remember. You also told him to stay away from you and let you move on. He said he was going to but then he gave you an apartment, an assistant he could trust with his life, the clinic and a job you couldn't refuse. If you ask me, he's got it pretty bad for you."
I thought about what he just said and for once I was speechless.
"Do you have anything stronger than this" I pushed my coffee back towards him and motioned to the wine rack.
"Your wish is my command" he winked and grabbed a bottle of red and two glasses. "What you need is a night of fun and I know just what to do. I am taking you out tonight and you're going to put everything out of your mind."
"Don't you have to work" I took a sip of the wine and got excited. I needed a night of fun where I could feel like myself again.
"When you're the boss you can do what you want. Drink up and I'll take you home to get ready" Luka made a couple of calls and grabbed a few more bottles of wine to go. "Ready?"
"You bet your ass I am"
