"I got it" Michaels voice broke me out of my trance, "I got her current address and her location based off of her cell phone"
"Perfect, good job Michael" Monroe wrote the information down in her notepad and gave us a nod. "I'll be going now. I will let you guys know if I find anything at all"
"Thank you" Marcus got up and followed her out before I could even say anything.
"Well this has been an interesting night." I tried to lighten the heavy mood that was overtaking the room. I knew everyone was worried but the fact that we knew who went after me had me feeling relieved. "Cmon guys, we now know it was Kate. Detective Monroe will pick her up and this chapter will be put behind us."
"I agree, and feel like we should celebrate..." Luka began speaking when he noticed my mom shaking her head, " ...this weekend at my restaurant. Dinner and drinks are on the house. You had a long day and we really should get going"
I could see my mom nodding from the corner of my eyes and I chuckled internally. She was such a sweet woman but could instil fear in people if and when she wanted to.
"Ok. Sounds like a plan" I responded while trying to hold back a yawn. Maybe them leaving was a good idea.
I gave everyone hugs and waited for Marcus to come back inside. I knew he was walking Monroe out but it was taking him a long time. I was hoping there wasn't anything more he was hiding from me. I didn't think I could deal with any further disappointment.
As if on cue I heard the door open and watched him step back in, trying to be quiet in the process.
"I'm not sleeping if that's what you are worried about" I gave him a smile and held onto his gaze. At that moment I wanted to run up and throw myself into his arms.
"I wasn't sure, it's been a long night and I was told you were fading pretty fast" he made his way towards me and held out his hand.
I let my hand fall into his and was instantly pulled up and into his arms. His scent hit me like a ton of bricks and I felt myself melting into him.
This felt right and I didn't want it to end but everything with Marcus seemed like it had a shelf life.
"I am tired" I spoke into his chest, my words muffled as he embraced me tighter.
"Then let's get you to bed" he pushed himself away from my hold and stretched his arm around me.
We slowly climbed up the stairs and I secretly hoped that he would stay with me.
As we entered the bedroom I grabbed a nightgown from the dresser and made my way to the bathroom. I tried to do my nightly routine in half the time as I wanted to get back out there to see him. I just hoped that when I opened the door he would still be there.
Taking a deep breath, I stepped out into the dark room, my heart falling into my stomach.
He left.
I shrugged my shoulders and made my way to my bed only to be proved wrong.
I looked down to find Marcus sleeping peacefully, his hands engulfed around a pillow. The image of him looking so peaceful and innocent made my heart full.
He didn't look like an intimidating billionaire tycoon but just as the man that I love.
I sighed to myself and slipped into bed with him. He said he wanted me and was going to wait
Was I willing to take this chance on him and on us?
And then there was Samantha.
Why was he willing to be here with me when he seemed so close with another female.
I continued to ask myself these questions until my find finally shut down and I fell asleep.
