I let out a deep sigh as I pulled off my blue plastic gloves and lazily tossed them in the bin.

I had just finished a quick surgery, an appendectomy on a young girl. My shift had been pretty long and I was just headed to rest when I was alerted of an emergency.

Today we had been short staffed so I made the decision to stay and help out.

Grabbing a new pair of gloves from the wall I tug them on and make my way back into the general area where the emergency patient would be coming through.

My gut twists and wrenches at the sight of the 118 crew. Tension pulls at my muscles and my legs go shaky.

I make my way over to them, a confused and anxious look filtered on my features.

Eddie spots me walking over and motions the team to my whereabouts.

My eyes search around for my boyfriend Buck but I don't find him.

The pounding of my heart speeds up, hammering against my chest. I felt nauseous and weak.

I knew something was wrong.

I felt Bobby place his hand on my shoulder. His lips started to move but I couldn't hear anything coming from them as a team of medical professionals and a stretcher rushed past.

Buck was the one on the bed. A doctor on top of him trying to get him back to life.

My body turned to watch as he was raced away. I wanted to run after him but I was frozen in my place.

My ears were ringing, I couldn't hear anything but that. Not the team trying to explain what had happened, not the sound of doctors and nurses rushing past and shouting, not the sound of machines beeping, not the sound of the TV playing in the background, only the sound of ringing and static.

I was like an old computer, only now catching up from lagging. My legs finally breaking free from the stone they felt like they had been trapped in and running to where Buck was taken.

Yet as soon as I saw him again I was hit with a wave of emotion that was too much to the point I felt purely numb.

My hands found the closest wall and I sank down it. I brought my knees to my chest like a frightened child.
