I stand at the curb, phone shaking in my hand. Arms tightly wrapped around my chest as I try to shield myself from the cold night breeze.

"Come on Maddie, pick up.", I beg dialling her number for the second time and holding the phone up to my ear.

Finally the other end of the line picks up, "Hello?"

"Maddie, can you please come and get me?", I ask peeling the hair that the wind has blown into my face away.

"Where are you?", she asks, the sound of a car door shutting in the background.

I tell my location and hang up.

My dickhead boyfriend and I had just got into another fight. I called Maddie without a second thought, she was my best friend and was always there for me. Even if she told me over and over that I should just break up with him.

Eventually her car pulls up and I get in. She sends me a look similar to an 'I told you so'.

Truth be told, I did. I don't know why I kept going back but a part of me knew it was because I liked the way Maddie would comfort me every time.

If I broke up with him then that affection would stop, so for as long as I could I'd grasp onto that comfort because I knew it would stop one day.

"Y/n, you know what you have to do.", she says, eyes on the road.

"I know.", I mutter looking out the window.

Well pull into her driveway. This was like our post-boyfriend-fight-ritual. Go to her house, snuggle up in blankets, eat loads of ice cream and junk food, watch movies and occasionally get drunk or high.

The house was warm unlike outside. The smell of food drifting through the air. "What smells so good?", I ask placing my handbag down on the couch.

"(Your favourite dinner food), you want some?", she asks with a smile, walking to the kitchen.

"Yes please.", I say following her.

She starts dishing it up, "Go get the blankets and wine. I'll bring this in."

I do what she says, grabbing the blankets and drinks. I knew my way around her house as if it were my own.

I place the fluffy blankets down on her bed along with our alcohol. I lift one corner up and hop it.

Being the most indecisive person ever I hated having to choose which movie to watch.

"Here you go.", Maddie says walking in and handing me the bowl.

"Mm.", I murmur taking a bite, "So good."

She chuckles and hops in next to me. "Let me guess, I have to pick the movie?"

"You know it.", I grin.

She playfully rolls her eyes and begins scrolling through Netflix.

"You know,", she says turning her head to me, "You don't seem very upset for someone who basically just broke up with their boyfriend."

I drop the fork into the bowl and put it on the nightstand. I'm a pretty bad actor huh. "Well I guess it's just because I'm not."

Her eyes study mine, almost searching for something. "About time.", she smirks, "What made you realise? Did my wise words of wisdom finally get to you?

"Yeah.", I say in a voice barely above a whisper. It wasn't really her words but rather just her.

My body slowly inches forward as does she. I look into her chocolate brown eyes.

"Maddie.", I murmur as she leans in all the way and connects our lips.

Her soft hand cups my jaw, I tangle my fingers in her hair.

We reluctantly pull away to catch our breath.

"Too soon?", she asks worriedly.

"Not soon enough.", I answer pulling her back towards me.
