Eggshells

Kagome sighed as the sun beat down relentlessly on her back. It had, once again, been a trying day for the time-traveling priestess.

It was the end of the summer, and the weather had been unforgiving. But that was normal for the season. What was also normal was Inuyasha's unyielding complaining about how weak humans were; due to needing more rest and water breaks than normal.

What wasn't normal, however, was the never ending feeling of eyes on her back. Not in a threatening manner, but in a, I am watching you always, kind of way. Nor was the vehemence in which Inuyasha ranted about his displeasure a normal occurrence.

Ever since Sesshomaru and his group had joined up with them, things had been… tense, for lack of a better word. The entire group felt as if it had to walk on eggshells when it came to the inu brothers. The daiyokai said he joined forces to better expedite the hunt of Naraku by pooling their resources in a temporary truce & alliance.

But they'd been traveling together for nearly two weeks and Sesshomaru seemed more inclined to watch Kagome's every move rather than actively search for the kumohanyu. His intransigent behavior didn't go unnoticed either.

Not only was Kagome feeling extremely uncomfortable, but Inuyasha seemed to somehow take his half-brother's new found interest in her as a personal offense to himself.

Of course instead of focusing his ire on the one causing it, she was the one taking the brunt of the backlash. “Oi wench, would you hurry it up! Kami, you're walking so slow we might as well be stopped.”

Case and point.
Sighing once again, Kagome squared her shoulders and stopped walking. “I'm walking the same speed I have been all day you baka! And in case you haven't noticed, it's already nearing twilight so we probably should stop!”

Rolling his eyes Inuyasha scoffed before stomping right up to the exhausted miko. “Keh! Don't even start with that crap! You're always looking for a way out of doing your duty. We don't need to stop, and we're not going to for one lazy weak human!”

Never one to back down, Kagome crossed her arms and glared at her supposed protector. Some protector… running her ragged and verbally lashing out at her all day. It was getting old.

“Whatever you jerk. I am tired, hungry, and my feet hurt! We're stopping to make camp and I'm going to SIT down and rest until tomorrow! “ Turning her back on the Inuyasha shaped hole on the ground, Kagome looked to her companions with a bright smile. “Well, let's find somewhere to set up camp, ne?”

Fur standing on end, Shippo tugged at Rins hand to follow after his okaa-san. He didn't want to disobey her, Kagome was scary when she was mad.
