Kagome felt horrible climbing over the lip of the well and back into the past. She had to return home, again, when she realized she forgot about a really important test. Of course, Inuyasha was highly unimpressed with her needing to put the search on hold again, and this time Kagome didn't even disparage him for it.
It WAS her fault this time. She should have just stayed home an extra few days before letting everyone set out again, but Inuyasha had been on her case so much lately that she was in a rush to return.
Granted, she really should have just skipped the test and blamed her made up illness. She wasn't prepared in the slightest and knew for a fact she'd done horribly. It was a waste of everyone's time for her to have left just to flunk the test she forgot about in the first place.
So here she was, in an awful mood, and things were about to get worse. Immediately after pulling herself from the well, Kagome's hackles were on the rise. Her spiritual powers were buzzing beneath the surface of her skin, itching to flare out in protection.
Dropping her backpack and grabbing her bow, Kagome looked around trying to find the disturbance that had her instincts completely on edge. It didn't take long for her to find what she was looking for.
With a guest of wind a pair of glowing brick red eyes could be seen emerging from the southern treeline. "Kagura? What are you doing here?!"
"Why am I here... pfft. As if you don't know." The wind witch glared at the Miko, vengeance clearly written on her face. Problem was, Kagome had never done anything aside from trying to help Kagura... She had no idea what the elemental could possibly want vengeance for.
Maybe she was misreading her facial expressions. It was more likely Naraku has sent her to catch her alone. In which case...
"I'm not giving you the shards so you can just forget about it!"Kagura scoffed as she opened her nihongo. As if the Shikon Jewel was worth wasting the few precious moments away from her creators grasp she had. No, what Kagura was here to discuss was MUCH more important than some magical baubble. "I'm not here for the shards stupid girl!"
Without warning she raised her fan and attacked. "Dance of blades!"
Kagome let out an ungodly screech before dropping to the ground and rolling to escape the blast. But she didn't get to celebrate a successful miss as Kagura continued her assault relentlessly.
With no chance to regain her footing, Kagome found herself dodging blade after blade of wind by rolling around on the ground like a pig in the mud on a hot summer day. "Look at you! You're pathetic! What's so great about you anyway? Why is it always YOU?!"
"Excuse me?" Finally having a chance to stand up, Kagome noted the dirt and scratches that now covered her body. Now feeling utterly humiliated, Kagome notched an arrow and shot back. Unfortunately, her aim was off and she missed by nearly a foot.
"First it was the hanyou following you around like the lost puppy he is." Kagura didn't understand it. This stupid woman had nothing to offer but her body. Why did everyone flock to her like she was the Kamis gift to earth?
"Then the moronic wolf started chasing you around." With a swing of her nihongo, another blast of wind went rushing forward.
Barely managing to dodge the blast, Kagome ducked down and reached for another arrow. All she could think was, where was Inuyasha? And why wasn't he there to protect her. She didn't get a chance to take aim as another wave of sharp wind vane rushing at her.
"Then it was Naraku, I even felt bad for you on that end. But then you had to go and sink your filthy claws into HIM! HE'S MINE!" Kagura was losing her temper. The stupid little slut wouldn't stay still long enough for her attacks to land. It was no matter though.
Without stopping to think of the consequences, Kagura let loose a flurry of wind attacks, hoping one would cut that smirk right off of her smug little face. "Stop this Kagura! I have no idea what you're even talking about!"
"LIAR!" Finally one of her attacks hit. Kagura relished in the painful scream that ripped through the Miko's throat. It was almost as satisfying as the scent of her blood in the air.
Soon, Kagura would eliminate her once and for all and once she was gone, nothing would stand in the way of her gaining that which she desired only less than her freedom itself. "No matter, I'll just kill you now and free him from whatever spell you've cast over him."
"You're insane." Kagome's eyes were filled with tears as the wind witch slowly began to walk toward her, a wild look in her eye, and a wicked smirk let Kagome know she was coming in for the kill. And with no one there to protect her, she had no choice but to let it happen.
The last set of attacks had hit her in three separate places and she was losing blood quickly. Her vision was already beginning to blur and Kagura voice seemed further away than it should. Oddly enough though, nothing hurt. "Maybe, but you're dead!"
Kagome decided right then that if this was the end, she was going out dignity intact. She wouldn't beg or plead. She wouldn't scream and cry. She would hold her head high and take the final blow like the warrior she strove to become. "Finish this."
