Aihra jolted awake, her heart pounding in her chest. The unfamiliar surroundings and the unfamiliar body she found herself in sent a wave of disorientation crashing over her. Blinking rapidly, she took in the details of the room – the pastel-colored walls, the neatly made bed, the array of stuffed animals adorning the shelves. This was not her bedroom, nor was this her body.
Slowly, the realization dawned on her. She was no longer Aihra Kotoku, a 25-year-old office worker from the real world. Instead, she was Aihara Kotoko, the protagonist of the beloved romantic comedy series, Itazura na Kiss.
Aihra's breath caught in her throat as she processed this staggering revelation. How was this possible? One moment, she had been falling asleep in her own bed, and the next, she had woken up in the world of a beloved manga and anime. It was a scenario straight out of the very fiction she had consumed and cherished.
Tentatively, she lifted her hands, examining them with a mix of wonder and trepidation. The delicate fingers, the smooth skin – this was not her own body. She ran her hands through her hair, feeling the silky strands cascade down her back. Everything felt unfamiliar, yet at the same time, it was all too recognizable.
"Kotoko, are you awake?" a gentle voice called out, and Aihra's head snapped towards the door.
There, standing in the doorway, was Aihara Noriko, Kotoko's mother. Aihra's heart raced as she took in the familiar face, the warm smile, and the genuine concern etched on the woman's features. This was not just a character from a story – this was a living, breathing person, and she was her mother.
"M-mother?" Aihra stammered, her voice trembling.
Noriko's brow furrowed slightly. "Is everything alright, dear? You seem a bit off this morning."
Aihra's mind raced, scrambling to formulate a coherent response. She couldn't very well tell this kind woman that she was, in fact, a stranger inhabiting her daughter's body. That would undoubtedly raise more questions than she was prepared to answer.
"I'm, uh, I'm fine, Mother," Aihra said, forcing a smile. "I just had a strange dream, that's all."
Noriko's expression softened, and she stepped into the room, sitting on the edge of the bed. "Well, I'm glad to hear that. You've been so excited about starting at Tonan University, I wouldn't want you to be worried or upset."
Aihra's heart skipped a beat at the mention of Tonan University. Of course – in the world of Itazura na Kiss, Kotoko had just been accepted into the prestigious school, much to the surprise and delight of the Irie family.
"Tonan University," Aihra murmured, her mind racing. "Yes, I'm, um, very excited about that."
Noriko beamed, reaching out to give Aihra's hand a gentle squeeze. "I know you'll do wonderfully, dear. Your hard work has paid off, and I'm so proud of you."
Aihra felt a lump form in her throat as she observed the unconditional love and support in Noriko's eyes. This was no longer just a character from a story – this was a real person, a mother who cared deeply for her daughter. Aihra couldn't help but feel a pang of guilt for inhabiting Kotoko's body and disrupting the natural order of things.
"Thank you, Mother," Aihra said softly, her voice barely above a whisper.
Noriko smiled and patted Aihra's hand reassuringly. "Now, get up and get ready for the day. Breakfast is ready, and you don't want to be late for your first day at Tonan."
