karl is curled up on his side under his duvet, wearing only a t-shirt and a pair of boxers. he had curled up because the house was cold, but being under the covers heated him up too much so he ended up stripping down but staying confined.
his moms tried calling on him a couple of times about half an hour ago, telling him to come down for dinner, but he just ignored them. they gave up after barely a few minutes, and he basked in the chance to stay in bed and ignore the rest of the world.
he's not really hungry.
he feels undeniably drained, and he knows that he needs some rest. sleeping has been difficult with everything going on, and his mind feels constantly switched on, either with overthinking or thoughts of his book, which seems to be a continually growing palace of ideas in his head.
karl's been trying to sleep since he got home from school hours ago, but his brain just won't slow down enough for him to get some much-needed rest.
he's been enjoying his peace so much that he actually scowls when someone knocks on his door. the brunette sighs, preparing himself, before humming to whoever is at the door, prompting them to come in.
karl tugs his duvet up right under his chin, wanting to stay in his little moment of solitude for as long as possible.
a jolt of surprise shocks through him when the door pushes open and he sees sapnap standing there.
he presumes the ravenette was over for dinner, and he sort of hates the fact that he didn't know. obviously, it's normal for dream to invite his boyfriend around without informing everyone, but karl would like to think that his own best friend would warn him that he's coming over.
something about seeing sapnap makes karl suddenly crave company, desperately just wanting to spend some time alone with his best friend. not to mention the fact he's starting to feel touch starved, even though he saw lucas during lunch and they made out in the parking lot.
he's craving a different kind of touch. something much less lustful and much more platonic.
"hey."
karl lets the duvet fall so it's just shoulders down, exposing himself to his friend just that little bit more. it's a tiny movement, but he hopes it acts to show sapnap that he's welcome, and that karl is opening up to him. "hi."
sapnap smiles warmly as he enters the room. either he understood karl's welcoming gesture, or he always came with the intention to enter as he lets himself right in, crossing the room towards the bed. "how have you been?" he asks as he crawls up onto the mattress before flopping down beside the brunette.
"tired," karl answers honestly. he instinctively rolls onto his other side to face sapnap, smiling when he sees his friend settled on the pillow opposite, facing one another. for the first time in a while, he feels like he's sitting with his best friend, not his brother's boyfriend.
sapnap nods a few times, his cheek rubbing against the cotton material of karl's pillowcase. there is a glint of understanding in his eyes as they trail over karl's sunk-in features. "your moods have been..." he trails off for a moment, seeming to be searching for a good term to use, "up and down."
