"do you know what i think about sometimes?" sapnap mumbles against dream's chest. he can hear the steady thump of his lover's heartbeat and the sound is grounding like nothing else. since the events of the past few months, sapnap often finds himself looking for any evidence that he is still alive, and so are the people he loves.

he supposes he never used to ponder the importance of life until he realised how fragile it could be.

"what's that?" dream asks. the blond puts his phone down as he waits for an answer, always giving sapnap his undivided attention when they talk. he has one hand in the ravenette's hair, brushing through it and scratching at his scalp, and the affection is so simple but so, so appreciated.

"i like to picture mister mcallister in prison," sapnap says, imagining it in his head, "looking all sad and hating his life. i hope other inmates found out that he's a child predator, because people like that always go through a lot of shit in prison. they're all criminals there, but there's like a hierarchy of crime and it's a known thing that they'll team up against anyone who's in for crimes against kids, animals or women."

dream huffs out an amused breath. "for someone as sweet as you, you come up with the most fucked up things sometimes," he replies light-heartedly. they're both talking under their breath, like their conversation is a secret to be hidden amongst the nighttime stars.

sapnap shifts, pressing his chin against dream's chest so he can peer up at his boyfriend. he squints playfully and replies, "don't act like you're better than me."

dream grins, leans down to press a soft kiss to the ravenette's forehead, and responds, "i hope someone gets a contraband baseball bat and crushes his skull in."

sapnap giggles as he lies back against dream.

the ravenette has always hated violence, but it doesn't count when it's imaginary and aimed at mister mcallister. that man deserves nothing more than to rot in the cell he is staying in.

that night a few months ago, when karl had been taken into hospital and kept overnight because of the near-fatal amount of meds he'd taken and the water in his lungs, sapnap had come back to the house alone. apparently, there are rules that only allow for members of the family to stay overnight but the ravenette couldn't bring himself to go back to his house so he returned to dream's.

sapnap read the letters that night, making himself sick with guilt and disgust, and then took it upon himself to go to the school the next day.

he had been emotional and, evidently, not thinking straight. sapnap's accusation alone was only enough to take lucas out of the classroom for the day, since he had no evidence to go off of but the school couldn't let the man keep teaching with good conscience. sapnap had questioned his entire existence when the police showed up at the school and he had to message dream, who was still sitting at his unconscious brother's bedside, and tell him what he'd done.

at the time, sapnap felt like he had made an awful decision, and the anxiety that crushed upon him was enough to make him feel like he was caving in but, in the end, it turned out okay.
