immature as it may be, karl has done his absolute best to avoid sapnap all day.

he walked into school this morning on his own, coasted through his lessons peacefully, and actively hid away during lunch so he wouldn't have to interact with the ravenette.

unfortunately, english was always destined to roll around and, since they sit next to each other, it's sort of impossible for karl to get away from his best friend.

he doesn't even know why he doesn't want to see him, since sapnap hasn't done anything wrong and there's a chance he might not even know about the argument karl had with his family last night...

who is he kidding? of course sapnap knows.

if karl didn't already think that sapnap knew, it would've been given away by the long gazes that sapnap kept giving him throughout the lesson. the class was working in silence, but it was very evident that sapnap was just waiting for his time to strike.

about ten minutes from the end of the lesson, when mister mcallister (lucas) sets them on a task, sapnap grasps his opportunity by the neck and immediately shifts to face karl. "are you okay?"

"i'm fine," karl answers dismissively. he grabs his pen and looks down at the work in front of him, trying to make sense of it.

english is usually his calling, but he has no motivation for it.

yesterday night drained him and, even after all of the tears, he is still so sad over it all. his entire body feels heavy, his head wanting to droop with the weight of his emotions. if he was to think about it enough, karl is sure he would burst into tears about now.

he hasn't gotten any work done all lesson, despite his favourite teacher giving them information for the past hour. it's about a subject karl is interested in too, but he still can't whip up the enthusiasm that would usually come naturally to him.

karl hates feeling sad. he hates, even more, how the feeling can't be brushed off. once it's there, it sticks.

"are you sure?" sapnap asks, unconvinced. he leans in closer, looking like he wants to touch karl but he's holding back. "dream told me about what happened."

karl isn't surprised, but it still annoys him just as much.

why is it that absolutely no one can wrap their minds around the fact that karl doesn't want everyone to hear about his shit? why can't they just keep things to themselves?

what happened last night was a private family matter, in what world does sapnap need to know about it?

karl decides to ignore what the ravenette said (because it's either that or he starts an argument), and decides instead to completely change the subject. "have you got any plans for the evening?"

in karl's head, he is praying that sapnap will be free and that he can somehow manage to convince his friend to spend the afternoon together, sans dream. if karl can spend his time at sapnap's house, he'll be able to avoid his family and therefore give himself more time to process his emotions before jumping right back into everything.
