Maeve sat on her sofa in her house in Monaco. She had got home around an hour ago and Charles was not there. She paitenty waited for the familiar sound of the front door unlocking to send sound waves through the house. Confrontation time was creeping upon her.
She watched silently as his eyes were glued to his phone as he placed his keys in the dish, bipassed Maeve and walked to the kitchen.
She did a little cough to raise awareness that she was in fact sat there waiting for him.
'Fucking hell, you scared me!' He jumped as his attention focused on Maeve, he was smiling because he was happy to see his wife in front of him. She was frowning because she knew something was up.
'How was training?' She asked point blank, his answer determined everything.
'Exhausting. Andrea really pushed me.' He spoke turning away from Maeve. His ability to lie to her face had disappeared over the past few weeks.
'Really.' She scoffed getting up from the couch. 'That's funny actually because yesterday I ran into Andrea. In London and he told me training actually starts on Monday.'
Charles knew he was busted but he couldn't tell Maeve the truth. He knew that lying to her was far worse but it's what he had to do. She'd hate him either way and it's something that he has to lie with.
'You've gone back to your old way Charles. We agreed no secrets and here we are with you lying to me again! We said we were going to give this a go and try and make it work but I can't do this if you are lying to me again. Just tell me the truth. Are you still cheating on me? Is there someone else Charles?'
Maeve was paranoid about being cheated on, especially since she has seen it and heard it on more than one occasion. But things were different now. Charles has feeling for her, he wants to make this work with Maeve, he loves her godamn it. He has a choice to make. Tell her the truth, how her father is dead and her mother is in prison and she is convinced she was framed or just lie, lie for a little bit longer.
'I'm sorry Maeve.' He spoke quietly. 'I am so sorry.'
It was what Maeve thought she feared the most. 'Oh my god.' She sighed feeling defeated. 'How could I be so stupid!' Her eyes were filling up with tears.
'You are not stupid. You are one of the smartest and most beautiful woman I have ever seen in my life!' Charles turned to face her, his eyes turning red with emotion.
'And yet I am still not good enough for you! Instead of being truthful and faithful to your wife, you choose to fuck around with other woman. How could I be so blind to this whole situation? How could I be so stupid to think someone like you could change?' Maeve soar with fury.
'I love you Maeve, I meant it when I said it. You are the woman I want to be with. You are the one for me!' He pleaded.
'You cheat and you lie all the time. I wonder why I am even surprised that you have done it again. May I just remind you that all of this was your idea. We could have continued to hate each other forever but you wanted this. And now I've fallen for someone who just breaks my heart for fun.' Maeve pointed her finger at him.
'You love me?' Charles questioned.
'I loved you and now I hate you. Congratulations Charles, hope you got what you wanted!'
'Maeve please!'
'No Charles, I am done with this. This is over! Unfortunately, I cannot divorce you so we have to keep living together but everything else I'm over it. I hate you the most right now.'
'Don't do this Maeve, please!'
'I'm going to stay with Arthur for a little while. I need to clear my mind.' Maeve spoke as she headed to the door to leave but Charles was behind her all the way.
'Stay with me. Don't give up on us.'
'Us? There is no us! You gave up on us a long time ago!' Maeve spoke as she left the property. Her cheeks were soaked with tears and her heart was pumping with adrenaline. She wanted to believe that he loved her and really did love him but she knew deep down she couldn't be good enough for him. she couldn't live being insecure of her every movement even when she knew he is loving another woman more, that's was hurt the most.
