"Ciao, bambina." Carina answers the call from her wife.

"Hey, babe. Umm...you're off shift around 7, right?" Maya asks. "Will you be able to get off shift 30 minutes earlier? Andy's pinning ceremony is today. She asked me to do the honor and invited you to be here."

"Let me check my appointment..." Carina says and opens the appointment system to check, "Yeah, I'll be at the station 19 earlier. Andy asked you to give her the captain badge?"

"Yeah."

"Are you OK?" Carina asks with worry. "Is it too much for you?"

"No, absolutely not." Maya says. "We competed for captaincy, but we're also friends. She's my sister. I trust her with my life. She's going to put on her dad's old badge you know. It's my honor to be the one who gives her Captain Herrera's badge."

Maya sounds calm and genuinely happy for Andy.

Carina breathes out and says with a small smile, "I'll be there later. Stay safe, bella."

"See you later. I love you." Maya says and hangs up the phone after Carina telling her she loves her, too.

The blonde firefighter walks to Andy's office, "Hey, Andy. Carina said that she'll be here for the ceremony."

The brunette captain tilts her head up from the pile of paper, "That's great! Bailey might be able to take Pru to be here, too."

"Hey, umm..." Maya sits down on the chair and her hesitation intrigues her friend. "What?" Andy asks.

"Is it OK that I'm taking some days off before paternity leave? 14 to 21 days?" Maya asks.

"I guess so. You saved up a lot of personal days. I don't see why not." Andy puts down the pen and sit up straight, asking with curious "Are you and Carina having a babymoon? Where are you going?"

"Nah, I'm just thinking about personnel costs and budget. If I take personal days and paternity leave, you have to find someone to sub me for months. I don't know if that will make it hard for you to do your job.I know budget issue is a real pain in the ass." Maya says while fiddling with her silicone ring.

"Don't worry about it, Maya. It's totally fine. Your family is more important. Leave the budget to me." Andy puts on a small smile. "Thank you for your concern though."

"No problem." Maya stands up from the chair, "I'm going to fill in the paper now."
