What Happens In The Dark

CHAPTER 7

Maya found the next few days incredibly difficult, in a way she felt like she was back to square one, pining for Carina wanting to see her, to touch her. Knowing that Carina was falling in love with her made it all the more difficult.

Maya needed to vent, she needed to be able to get all of her feelings out and have the opinions of her friends, so she had asked Jack and Andy to go get a beer.

The three of them sat in a booth in the far corner of the bar as Maya laid it all out for the two of them... Given that she had only recently told them how the whole thing started and how done she was with Carina once she knew she was the Captain's wife; she knew she needed to catch them up on how and why she agreed to meet Carina.

Maya told them how she had agreed on the condition that Carina leave her alone after if she still wanted that - a point Andy was already aware of, of course. She then told them how and why the conversation moved from a public 'safe space to her apartment'.

She spent at least 10 minutes answering questions and swearing she was telling the truth when the level of physical interaction was questioned as soon as Maya let slip they moved the conversation to her place.

"Look honestly it was innocent ok, it's just the longer we were out there the more anxious I was getting about someone, ANYONE who knew either of us spotting us together." Maya says.

Andy rolls her eyes "yeah and it was a good excuse to get her in private."

"NO!!" Maya says, before waving her off "Anyway not the point I have answered your questions about that. Nothing happened, well I didn't sleep with her." She says avoiding eye contact.

"SEE! Jack, I said so, didn't I - if they were alone she couldn't be trusted" Andy exclaims poking at Jack's side who pushes her off.

"Um HEY. Ouch. Quit poking me." He whines, "but also, yes - you did say that." He smirks at Maya.

Maya for her part rolls her eyes "glad I form a healthy part of your day to day conversation topic, hey, here's an idea, why don't you get your own lives instead of having to talk about mine all the time." She snarks in a half joking manner.

"Um - sure we can do that. You're good to sort this little mess of yours out yourself then right? If Jack and I bolt?" Andy says with equal snark.

Maya looks wide-eyed as Andy makes a show of standing and motioning for Jack to do the same "No I'm sorry ok. Sit down please. I need you guys" She says .

Andy looks triumphant as Jack just smirks and rolls his eyes at his friends "Ok when you two have finished.... Maya - you gonna get to the good stuff any time today?" Jack asks.

Maya sighs before launching back into the story of the talk and how it went. She tells them about the fact that before they moved the conversation from the public meet up to her apartment she made up her mind to walk away, until Carina basically said she was falling for her.

That got a gasp from both of them. And maybe a better understanding of what it was exactly that tipped Maya's hand in wanting to make their conversation a private one.

She told them how they talked about Carina's marriage, and despite her feeling a little uneasy and getting them both to again confirm they wouldn't breathe a word of anything to anyone, telling them that Felix is having his own affair - that he has been for possibly 18 months. That drew another gasp from them.

The big finish though, that was what really got Andy and Jack's jaw's to drop. "So um then I told her that as much as we both have feelings for each other and I don't know how to walk away, I actually like Felix, he's a good guy." She takes a breath seeing them nod.
