What Happens In The Dark

CHAPTER 9

Carina pulls up to Maya' apartment building, a bundle of nervous energy, though she's not exactly sure why. After all they have discussed this, Maya wants this as much as she does, she tells herself, as she gets out of the car and makes her way to the building.

As she makes her way through the hallways and up to Maya's door she can't help but smile, thinking about telling Maya she did it, she left Felix, that they can be together, just them, that they can have sleepovers whenever they like... that Maya no longer has to be careful with her marks. 'Ok, stop that right now Carina, there will be time for that later' she tells herself.

When she knocks on Maya's door it doesn't take long until the shuffling noise of socks against the wood floor gets closer and closer before the door is being pulled open to reveal Maya smiling at her as she stands in the doorway.

"Hi." Maya says simply.

Carina smiles but rather than say anything she pulls Maya to her in a passionate kiss, they stand in the door way for longer than is probably appropriate making out, before Maya pulls back.

"Woah, that's some greeting, but maybe we should move this inside before my neighbours complain." Maya jokes.

Carina laughs and nods as she moves past Maya and into the apartment. She walks into the living area and turns to face Maya who is still smiling at her "I did it." She says.

Maya frowns "did what?" She asks not immediately connecting the dots.

Carina laughs and rolls her eyes "I left Felix, I told him it's over." She says a smile still firming fixed in place.

Maya's eyes go wide "oh my gosh, really? What happened? Are you ok? He didn't hurt you did he? 'Cus if he di-" Maya is cut off from her questions and rambling by Carina.

"Bambina, relax, it's fine, and no of course he didn't. I told you he's a good man." She says. "Come, sit down... I'll tell you everything." Carina says

Carina spends the next 10 minutes going over the main points from her conversation with Felix, telling her how they discussed his affair, her unhappiness and that of course she had to lie and tell him there was no one else when he asked, a fact Maya appreciates.

"So what happens now?" Maya asks once Carina is done filling her in on everything "and where are you staying?" She asks.

"Well in regard to what happens now, obviously we are together - if you still want that?" She checks quickly seeing Maya nod vigorously making her chuckle. "But obviously we need to keep us a secret for now, which means we can't exactly go out on dates..." Carina says sadly.

"Sure we can" Maya interjects, seeing Carina's frown of confusion she continues "we just have to get creative, and probably be prepared to go further afield than would be considered normal for a date..."

Carina smiles "I like the sound of that. I mean I know we have been sneaking around for a while now but it's really only been about sex, this though, this will be about love. Because I meant it when I said it Maya, I love you." She says leaning in to kiss the other woman.

Maya accepts the kiss happily before pulling back "I love you too." She says against Carina's lips before reconnecting them.

Maya pulls back once more "oh what about a place? Where are you staying?" She asks.

Carina smirks "well I was hoping tonight I would stay here, in your bed... And then I am staying with a friend from work for a bit, there's a spare room so I will have my own space, whilst Felix and I sort out finances and the house." She says.

Maya just nods, "Oh you can definitely stay in my bed tonight, and hopefully many more nights in the future." She winks.

Carina just smirks at her leaning in as she whispers "I hope so too bella" against Maya's waiting lips.
