"Xavier Cross, hm?" my mother chortles as she waltzs into the kitchen. I give her an annoyed look:

"You're being annoying." I drawled stuffing a red pink lady apple into my mouth. "I'm just trying to know what's going on. The Crosses haven't been seen in London since the 80s, so why are they back now," she asks rhetorically.

"Maybe because people move dear." my father yells over, his face stuck to the prophet like always. "Thank you, dad," I say. My mother rolls her eyes, "Just curious." She says walking out of the kitchen again. I scoffed sitting on top of the kitchen counter, when a thought came to my head.
"Hey, Dad." I start. "Hm?" he responds not paying attention.

"Whats the spell Sectumspera?" I Ask. He looks at me strangely, "How do you know that? Did you learn it in DADA?" he asks me. I try to come up with a lie, but my dad can usually read me like a book. "Erm, no. I just heard about and I'm asking what it's for a friend." I lie.

He folds the paper and sits up, "Which friend Serene?" He asks me. His tone is not the same as always. It's more dismissive and obedient not the way I'm used to. This indicates that he knows something about the spell, and what it can do.
I shake my head jumping off the counter, "Never mind. It's not important." I say.

He doesn't pester me, he lets me walk away. I feel suspicious, but I ignore them as I'm excited for the ball soon. I'll be able to see Draco and Sophia. And James.

We were official, but not at the same time. I liked to pace myself, but he liked to move fast. He was always trying to drag me into empty classrooms, but I didn't roll like that. At least I wasn't ready to yet. He is my first boyfriend, and I like him I do. I just don't want to move too fast.

I'm thinking about James the whole weekend till the day of the ball. I'm getting ready as we were to leave for the Hayes soon. Xavier's parents threw the best annual Christmas Eve party. Every elite pureblood family went, it was an exclusive event.

I walked down the grand staircase, my parents looked up at me and of course, my mother was dramatic. "Serene, you look gorgeous." She comes up and rests her hands on my cheeks. I roll my eyes, "Thank you." I say as I walk past her.

"I want to meet this James. I want to see what he's like." She says. I roll my eyes again as I put on my arm-length gloves, "Don't scare him off." I teeth.
She gasps pretending to be offended, "I wouldn't dare. I just want to see if he's eligible." She says getting into the limo.

The whole drive I'm playing with my hands. They're gloved and I do that when I'm nervous. I don't want my mum to embarrass me, I wouldn't want James to think any less of me. As we walk into the house we're greeted by Xavier's family.
My mother says hello to his mother as my father bonds with his father.
