Everyone was back at Hogwarts early for the annual New Year's party. Every year all the houses host a party, but Slytherin always wins for the most popular event of the night. Drinks were scattered around the common room, music was blasting and illegal substances were everywhere. We were all underage smoking and going on drugs, but that's what made it more fun.

I walk into the common room with Blaise beside me, the room is transformed into a nightclub with flashing lights, smoke filling the room and loud music. The booths are packed with people drinking, making out and doing other things.

Luckily for me, Blaise one of my best mates since I've started is hosting this year's party so he's secured a private booth for only his friends. But once we made it to the booth it was already a little full, Xavier was there with Sophia and so was Adrian, and Theodore. But so was Serene, on top of James making out with him.

I felt a little confused, I thought they were still fighting. I grab a lighter and light my cigarette as I am still hyper-focused on Serene. I couldn't help but stare at her as she was on top of James, holding his cheeks as she kissed him.

As I started to feel intoxicated Pansy arrived with Daphne. Pansy instantly came to me, talking to me nonstop. But everything was going through one ear and out the other. I wasn't even paying attention, I was just inhaling the smoke and exhaling it, over and over again.

I guess Pansy was my in-school chick, whereas Astoria was my outside-of-school chick. They shared me, along with the many other girls I fuck from time to time. But I could tell Astoria was feeling snatchy whenever she could sense Pansy getting a little too close to me outside of school. Made me scoff really, it's not like I like either of them at all.

"Hey, do you have a lighter?" I hear Serene ask James once they'd stopped eating each other's faces. He pulled out a lighter from his blazer pocket and put it below her cigarette to light it. But it seemed the fuel had run out. "Stupid thing, it works." He cursed.
Serene sat there, the cigarette in her mouth as she watched him lazily try to fix his cigarette.

I couldn't help but grin to myself as I had a perfectly fine lighter in my pocket, rather expensive too.
I stood up, Pansy stopped talking as she watched me walk over to Serene.
"Here," I lean down and light the cigarette, our faces closer than ever. I could feel James' gaze on mine, hard. She looked up at me, and I could see her smiling through her eyes. Once it lit the cigarette first try, I stood up. She blew the smoke upwards with a sigh, "Thanks Draco. Always there to save the day." She says with a jaunting laugh.

I chuckle back as I walk back to where I was before. I notice James is still staring at me. I don't flinch or feel intimidated, I only look at him unbothered.
He's ticked off as he whispered something into Serene's ear. She nods her head as she quickly gets up along with James. "We're going to go dance," she tells me.

I nod at her as I watch her leave. Her dress is slightly hiked up her back, she pulls it down and I can't stop myself from staring. I felt myself getting a boner as she slightly flashed me. I mean she wouldn't have flashed me if I wasn't looking, but I was. I was.

"Let's go dance too, I'm bored." Pansy then whined like the nagging little bitch she is. "Come on!" She grabbed my arm. I learnt it's better to just let the woman get whatever she wants, so I got in and got up. But I grabbed a glass of whiskey along with me.

The countdown was about to start and thankfully I lost Pansy, I found myself with Theodore and Blaise. "Single again, huh?" I ask then with a slight smile.
They both agree, "It's better like this though." Theo says. I shake my head laughing as I take a slide out of my glass as people start counting down.

"10, 9, 8..." I look around the room people screaming as we're all huddle together on the floor. "7, 6, 5.." my eyes fall on Serene and James, it's like watching it in slow motion as his arms wrapped around her shoulders holding her closer then I'll ever be to her as she's cheering loudly jumping up and down.
"4, 3, 2, 1! HAPPY NEW YEAR!" Everyone cheers as confetti falls from the ceiling.

I watch as the couples grab each other and kiss, but I'm mainly watching Serene. She leans her head up and James leans down and kisses her wrapping his arm around her back.
I grimace as I look away feeling a burning sensation inside of me. My glass is now filled with confetti making me more pissed off.
Theodore scoffs rolling his eyes as she blows the smoke out of his mouth, "Happy New Year." He mumbled.

My eyes look at him as he says that, the only thought going through my head.
That this wasn't going to be a happy year at all.
