Chapter 58 ♦ Gender reveal

Ray's POV

Two weeks later, I was sitting in a waiting room in front of the door I thought I'd never open.

"You are more nervous than me, hia." She noticed my knees were shaking. Well, of course I am! I don't know at all what her decision is and I don't know if I'll be able to take the abortion option well. My nephew's future is about to be decided in a few minutes.

The nurse opened the door and called us in but stopped me at the door.

"Who are you? You weren't here yet." I coughed to clear my throat and our little theater could begin.

"Babe, you didn't tell them about me? I'm so sad!" She walked back to us.

"Oh, my bad. This is... the father of my child!" Her smile couldn't be more fake.

"I thought you didn't know him... well, now that's finally clear, you may come in." We nodded and I put my hand on her shoulder. In the end, I could just act like her brother.

Her gynecologist was somehow familiar though... as if I saw him in some add.

"Ray, this is Dr. Alex. My father bought him... I mean paid for his special service." I knew it, he did advertises for tampons, pads and other female products.

"Nice to meet you! I see you finally showed yourself. Were you running away in front of her father, huh?" He bumped his elbow into me and in fact he was right. We were both running away from him.

"Yeah, yeah, something like that. Could you already show me my child?" I was so excited!

"What an interest, you seem to be completely different from what Mary told me. Irresponsible jerk, was it?" She face-palmed. Hey! Sand described me like this in the beginning as well!

"Well... I was a coward but now I'm facing the consequences. The baby, please." I looked at him sharply and he rather did his work as he should. Mary lay down and I held her hand while he put some gel on her belly and then massaged her tummy with something.

"Hmm, it's looking good! The heart beats just like it should and you can see the body clearly now and... I can reveal you the gender..." I could not believe he could see its gender when it was just a black and white stain. "The question is whether you did not change your mind, Mary. If you decided for abortion, the reveal could make it harder for you." She gulped and stayed quiet. I was still holding her hand and she looked at me and I smiled. She smiled at me and then looked at the doc.

"I decided, I'm going to keep it."

"Yay!" The doc was happy even for me. I brightly smiled when I realized it's going to be true.

"So now I can tell you the gender." Just telll us, doc!

"It is..." I glared at him. "It's a girl! Congratulations!" So Sandy junior! I'm already in love!

Mary's check up went well. As the "future father", I had to fill some questionnaire but it wasn't useless at all, they'll be just confused later, not my problem.

I was holding Mary's waist when she felt sick and we stayed in the waiting room little longer.

"Are you okay? Do you want water?" She shook her head.

"I just feel dizzy... as if I drank. It'll be okay in a while. Ray, thank you for being with me and telling my father to back off." I nodded and stroked her shoulder.

"Don't worry... I'll take care of you and the child." She smiled and rested her head on my shoulder.

"You are much better anyways than that jerk who did not look for me at all. I wouldn't want him here. Ray... I'm willing to give the girl up for adoption if you promise to take a good care of her. And letting me see her as well! Until she'll realize, I can be just an aunt for her."
