Emily

"Emily? C'mon, mom says it's time to get up."

I woke up to nobody yelling at me and the smell of food.

I sat up and stretched, looking around the room. Oh right, I forgot I had slept at Ryleigh's. What time is it?

"Good morning. My dad's making breakfast for us. He got in late last night but he's excited to meet ya. Always happy I'm making friends."

"Cool. Smells amazing, can't wait. What time is it?"

"Uhh, six-thirty? We have like an hour before we have to go."

"Wow. I never wake up this early."

"Oh. Uhh, sorry."

"No, no. It's completely fine. I also never really eat breakfast, so it's a good change all around."

We both got ready, taking turns using her bathroom and freshening up. When we finished we headed upstairs and started eating breakfast with her parents.

"So Emily, you have classes with Ryleigh, right?" Her mom said to me.

"Yeah. We have most classes together, I think we have like, maybe two classes seperate."

"Really? Well then, I'm glad you're there to help her out."

"Yeah. I do what I can."

"Mom, stop." Ryliegh said. I could see her turning red.

"Oh, sorry. Don't mind me Emily, just being a mom."

"Yeah, but how was her first day? She refuses to tell us anything." Her dad spoke up now, smirking at Ryleigh as she shrunk in her seat.

This was so cute, this family dynamic they had. No animosity, just genuine happiness.

We talked for the next few minutes until we had to go, and me and Ryleigh decided to walk and meet Jake at the school. I texted him to bring my bookbag with him.

"You're parents are so nice. And they're both like, amazing at cooking."

"They're embarrasing. But yeah the foods pretty good."

"No, it was nice. Seeing a family actually act like a family."

"Oh, sorry."

"No, you say sorry too much. I promise it was nice, a good change of scenery."

We kept going until we saw Jake waiting outside of the school.

"Hey asshole. You left me with her. Hi Ryliegh." I rolled my eyes at him as we walked inside the school.

"Yeah I know, but I did tell you to stay out. I was busy trying to get away. How was she?"

"Honestly, not as bad as I thought. She asked me about Kim, but other than that we didn't really talk."

"Okay, good. How about your day with Frank, how'd that go?"

"Ugh. Honestly I don't even know. His girlfriend is really nice, Jasmine. I don't know how they got together because she's just a super nice person and he's kind of an asshole. But other than that I think that I might have... maybe made things worse." Oh no.

"What did you do?"

"Nothing. Yet. I need assistance." We reached the hallway where we part ways and he started walking away.

"Jake! What did you do?"

"It's actually what I didn't do. I'll fill you in later."
