Donnie had been by your side all day, you'd refused to go home, and after a wonderful day of flying around with him, snagging pizza, and messing around in an art museum together, your heart is full.

"You know, if you quit with the Dragons, I may have an opening for an assistant."

"What?" You say, almost knocking your ice cream off the cone in confusion and shock.

"I quite enjoy working with you."

"I-" you stand there for a moment. Before throwing away the ice cream, grim determination settles over you. Fuck it, what did you have to lose? "I've gotta go okay Don?"

He pauses, looking you over. Before nodding.

"Thank you, this was an amazing date."

It was adorable when he got flustered, and you meant what you said, it was an amazing date.

"Do you mean-"

But you're gone as he asks. Already rushing around a corner. You rush over the pavement, stumbling over your own two feet as you make your way towards the bright tower in downtown. Fear and anxiety riddling your bones, everything Leo said was right, but you were going to fix it. You'd tell Donnie what you'd done and pray he understood.

You truly hoped he understood.

He had helped you so much, he'd shown you what Tan had tried to tell you all those years ago. You wouldn't let them change you to be someone like them, because they were terrible people.

You stopped, staring up at the large and garish dragon symbol.

Donnie had given you love when you couldn't love yourself, he'd given you hope when you thought all hope was lost. You look down at your gauntlet, smiling sadly. This could only go so many ways, and most of those ways ended poorly. But you couldn't live with yourself any longer if you stayed with the dragons, constantly betraying Donnie's trust. You take a deep breath, remembering Donnie's smile, his laugh, the way he would comfort you, the fluttering of your heart when you flew together...

A sudden realization floods over you.

"God damn it Donatello." You say, eyes widening as you look down at the gauntlet again. "I'm in love with you." You whisper. A small smile on your face.

You tap a few more things out on your gauntlet and push the doors open.
