I reached my hand up to grip my shirt that rested on my chest, my heart rapidly beating, an unwavering race, I couldn't slow it down no matter how hard I tried, I needed to get to my car and get home, the school was only a couple blocks from here, my car still resting in the parking lot, I abandoned my black Chevy Malibu earlier that day when I jumped in stiles jeep, I glanced up at the animal clinic one more time before taking a deep breath, in the cold night sky I could see white air leave my lips with each breath I took, I closed my eyes for a split second with another deep breath, I then turned around to race off toward the school but before my legs could move I opened my eyes and jumped back in fear and shock as he stood there with his arms crossed right in front of me glaring daggers through my eyes

"Derek?" I gasped

He took a step closer to me forcing me to stumble back, he kept stepping closer and closer and I kept backing away as much as it took to keep distance between us, he was angry and I didn't have to be werewolf to sense it, I don't quite understand why, sure he hates my family and learning that we spent all day together and I never mentioned it had to give him some sense of burning rage, but he's the predator, he's the monster, I don't get how he can be so angry with me when I'm doing what I'm doing out of since of duty, for my family, my mom, the code, I'm trying to protect everyone from someone like him, and I'm the bad guy?
that question clouded my mind as my back crashed against something, I turned my head to the side realizing now that we were walking so much that my back finally met a wall on the side of the animal clinic

I glanced up in Derek's eyes, he still hadn't said anything, I squinted my eyes in confusion as I scoured his face, trying to study him
"Stop just enough, I can't take the silence anymore"
my voice sounded almost vulnerable

Derek's arms still crossed, him standing so close to me I could feel the heat radiating off his body, it warmed me up in the cold night "An argent huh?"

I slowly nodded while trying not to show my fear, I kept eye contact as I began to glare at his next words "give me one good reason why I shouldn't rip you apart right now"

"Do it-" my voice echoed as he looked at me in confusion before I continued "prove to me and everyone that you're exactly the monster my family should be hunting"

he flinched at my words, not out of fear though, shock maybe, like he didn't expect it, his glared hardening "I'm the monster?"

I crossed my arms and glared up at him as I smirked "that's right"

His voice turned stern, his glare shooting daggers deeper and deeper in my soul "come on"
