POV: NICHOLAS
Great. Just great. I should've expected something of the sort to happen, but little ol' dumb me let myself get cornered and beaten up by some of the oh so amazing soccer team members. And what a surprise, they were none other than Hunter and his lackeys.
Now I'm walking...., no scratch that, limping towards my house, with fresh wounds. Let's see, a busted lip and some broken fingers from my right hand, multiple bruises, swollen left eye and probably one or two fractured ribs. This had to be one of the cruelest beatings. Guess they didn't like my attitude, so they did me a "favor" to remind me my place.
FLASHBACK
Hunter: - Come on, just say that you're sorry, that you'll never talk back again, and I'll make it stop.
He chuckled, a sadistic grin plastered on his face. One of the bulkier guys was holding my body down, while another was grabbing my hands, restricting any movement. Tears ran down, but I didn't give him the satisfaction. Hunter looked even more pissed. That's when he raised his foot and slammed it on my hand, effectively breaking my fingers.
Nicholas: - AAAGHH!!!
A cry of pain escaped my lips as I thrashed around. They looked slightly panicked now, realizing they may had gone too far, so they left me on the ground. I blacked out from the pain.
FLASHBACK ENDS
I struggled a bit to unlock the door, but the minute I entered, I was hit with the strong smell of cooked food.
Nicholas: - What the-....?
My confusion vanished when I heard two very "familiar" voices coming from the kitchen. And sure enough, there they were... my oh-so-"beloved" parents. As usual, I went completely unnoticed. I cleared my throat, and surprisingly, it worked. They looked at me. No greetings. No smiles. Just cold indifference, as if my very existence were irrelevant. My father had brown eyes, black hair, and a hint of stubble. My mother was a little shorter, with brown eyes and hair somewhere between blonde and brunette. Well... this is awkward, I sighed inwardly.
Mother: - You should start preparing your suitcase. In a week, you'll be going to summer camp for a month.
Nicholas: - ...Excuse me?
What?!
Mother: - I said...
She didn't get to finish.
Nicholas: - I HEARD WHAT YOU SAID!!!
Their eyes went wide with shock. It was the first time I had ever reacted like this. My mother looked... worried? My father's anger, on the other hand, began to simmer.
Nicholas: - You come back here after a goddamn year.....no calls, no messages, no nothing, and the moment you see me like this, instead of helping, you decide to get rid of me?! Sending me, without my consent, to some camp I know nothing about?! How can you be so disgustingly heartless?!
My tone was laced with so much venom, they flinched. All the pain I'd been holding inside boiled over into pure fury. HOW COULD THEY BE SO HEARTLESS?! My father snapped out of his trance and glared at me.
