3RD POV

The moment Selin opened her eyes, she found herself seated on a chair, wrists pinned behind the backrest, ankles bound to the legs. Any attempt to move only made the ropes bite deeper into her skin. She scanned her surroundings, blinking away the fog clinging to her vision. A small cell. Dark, bleak, cold and damp. One side was sealed with thick metal bars; the rest was boxed in by walls that seemed to swallow what little light existed.

She could've shredded the restraints. Split the walls apart. Reduced this entire place to dust with her magic... If she still had it. But there was nothing. The magic was silent. Her gaze sharpened on the dull, stone-like material lining the walls and floor, catching the faint grey shimmer threading through it.

Nihil.

Of course. A rare ore capable of nullifying magic. Even the strongest mages couldn't escape its effect. Her attention then dropped to herself. Her armor was gone. Her bangle removed, alongside her weapons. Whoever put her here meant business. But who?

Maren: - Well, well, well... Look who's finally awake.

Across the iron bars stood a woman with long braided red hair and piercing lime-green eyes. Her outfit looked like it belonged to a rogue adventurer, though the smug smirk on her face and the current hostage situation screamed definitely bandit adjacent.

   Selin: - And you are...?

The woman let out a dark chuckle.

Maren: - Oh, me? I'm the one who orchestrated your capture. The mastermind who planted the blade for the royal guards to find. The genius who brewed the potion that knocked you out cold. The last surviving heir of a once-proud family... a family you destroyed!!!

She yanked down her red hood for dramatic effect, flipping her braid over one shoulder.

Maren: - I am Maren Roseberen!!

   Selin: - ...Who?

Maren pose twitched.

   Maren: - (blinking), eh?

Selin: - Roseberen...? Did I buy tea from you once?

Maren: - N-No! You murdered my parents in cold blood five years ago!!

Selin: - Uhhh... nope. You've got the wrong person, girly.

Maren gritted her teeth.

Maren: - Don't play games with me, dark mage!! You're acting clueless now that you've finally been caught!? HA! What a pathetic move!!

Selin: - Look, I genuinely have no idea who you are. Maybe if you gave me a bit more info, we could clear up this massive misunderstanding.

She spoke calmly, but the flat tone made it painfully clear she couldn't care less. That, and her eyes kept drifting lazily across the room as if she'd rather be anywhere else. Maren scoffed crossing her arms, her chin held high like a villain in a stage play.
