How horrible indeed.
Such devastation.
Such a heartbreaking tale.
The kingdom lay in ruins.
The squads were exhausted, beaten and bloodied.
Civilians were hiding in shattered shelters, running through smoke-choked streets, counting their losses.
Flames had swallowed their homes, and the storm washed the ashes into nothingness.
Nicholas and Hunter, two human teenagers who never should've stepped foot in the mage realm, had endured a month of pure hell.
They faced terrible horrors.
They survived impossible odds.
Yet somehow, they were still alive.
The Dark Butterflies, the squad that had taken them in, now lay scattered.
Airos, Ronan, and Lyra were stranded far from the capital with most of the surviving forces.
Selin was flying toward the collapsing dome.
Kenju lay near the plaza, bloodied and barely breathing, with Severed desperately trying to wake him.
Zana and Hunter lay unconscious near the eastern ruins, bodies broken, surrounded by lingering frost and flame.
And Nicholas.....
Nicholas rested atop the destroyed clocktower platform, unconscious, as the last traces of corruption evaporated from his body.
So what?
You think this is the end?
No.
This is far from over.
The story has only just begun.
Forces older than time are watching.
Secrets long buried strain against their chains.
Revelations wait to tie everything together.
Because everything that has happened...
Everything that is happening...
And everything that will happen...
...is already here.

In a small house on the outskirts of Minnesota, a woman with brown hair, warm brown eyes, and freckles dusting across her cheeks hummed softly as she prepared toast in the kitchen. Morning sunlight streamed through the window, carrying with it the chorus of birds outside. It was a peaceful day. She placed the toast on a small plate, added a bit of jam just the way her son liked it, and stood still for a moment. Her smile faded. With a quiet breath, she picked up the plate and walked up the stairs, and down the hallway toward a closed bedroom door. Her hand hovered, hesitantly. Then she knocked, softly.
