A week later...

"Mari, wake up!"

I open my eyes and see Max, hovering over me. "What time is it?" I groan as I rub my eyes. "4:30." He answers. "Max, I'm fucking tired, go away." I say.

"But I have something to tell you!" He whisper yells. "What is it?" I sigh. "You know that girl from my university that I really like?" He asks. "Mhm." I nod.

"I asked her out on a date and she said yes!" He tells me. "You asked her out at four in the morning?" I roll my eyes. "We stayed up texting a lot." Max shrugs. "Congrats, Maxi pad. Thank you for another reminder that I'm single and alone. Can you go now? I have work tomorrow." I huff.

"Sorry, Mar." He says, looking sheepish. "It's fine. I'll see you later." I tell him. "Okay, love you." He whispers. "Love you too." I say back.

Max walks out of my room and shuts the door behind him. I sigh and lay my head back down on my pillow before closing my eyes again.

Jesus, everybody is falling in love but me.

I hate being single.

"Sweetheart, wake up." I hear my mom say. I rub my eyes and sit up in bed. "What's wrong?"

"Will you walk Lola for me? She's been crying to go out and I can't take her because of my foot." Mom explains.

Lola is our German Shepard. She's 3 and she's the cutest thing ever.

"Just let me change real quick and I can." I tell her. "Okay, thank you." She smiles.

Once she leaves the room, I throw on some shorts and a sweatshirt. I go downstairs and grab Lola's leash before attaching it to her collar. "C'mon, baby girl, let's go." I coo at her.

We walk out of the house and start to walk down the street once I see my friend, Zoe.

"Oh, hey, Mar." She waves. "Hi, Z." I grin. "What's up?"

"Nothing much." Zoe shrugs. "Just going to see Bil."

"Oh." I nod. "You can hang out with us if you'd like." She offers. "Zoe, you know Billie and I hate each other." I chuckle.

"Damn, you really do? I always thought you both had crushes on each other for some reason." She furrows her eyebrows. "Hell nah." I shake my head. "Never in a million years would I like Billie."

"She can be a lot." She laughs. "I'll text you later?"

"Okay." I smile softly. "See you."

"Bye, Mar." Zoe waves goodbye before walking away.

Zoe is super sweet. I've known her almost my whole life because we'd play together with Billie when we were little, though me and Billie didn't want to play with each other. She's kinda the only reason we'd even be in a 10 foot radius of each other.

I finish walking Lola before taking her back home and taking off her leash. "Get some water, baby." I say in that voice everyone uses to talk to animals and babies.

Strange how everyone does that.

"Thank you for walking her." My mom says. "Of course." I smile. "I'm gonna head upstairs and chill for a little bit until I have to go to work."
