Now, everyone in the wizarding world has heard the story of Harry Potter, the boy who lived, but have you heard the story of Lilyanala Riddle, the secret sister? No, well let’s start from the beginning.
About two months before the birth of young Potter, a baby girl was born. Her mother was a beautiful muggle-born witch known as Lily Potter (Evans), her father a truly evil wizard known as Lord Voldemort aka Tom Riddle. The girl’s mother loved her dearly but did not want to have her. The girl’s father however did not love her in the slightest, in fact he was ashamed of his newborn daughter.
This may have been why he named the girl, Lilyanala Riddle, a beautiful extension of her mother’s muggle first name with his father’s muggle last name.
Her name was beautiful but everyone just called her Lily in the muggle orphanage she was put in. For the first five years of Lily’s life she knew nothing of her family, of wizards, of magic. She had only the faint memory of some nonsense words and wild dreams and imaginings of a young girl.
For as long as she could remember she had been around strange happenings especially when she lost her temper, but tonight on her fifth birthday it was different. She was sitting alone in her room watching a flame on the candle that lit the room. She started singing “Happy birthday” and the flame grew brighter and then turned green.
That green glow…she remembered it. When she was a baby, years ago, she was in her crib, next to her baby half brother. When suddenly her father burst into the room, her brother started crying and their mother was yelling at her father, begging him to spare the children.
“Tom, please, please, the children did nothing wrong…they’re not even old enough to defend themselves…” she begged and cried as she held Harry safely in her arms. Harry’s father, James Potter, was very angry and threatened to kill baby Lily himself if Tom harmed Harry.
“leave my wife and my son alone or I’ll kill the only person you can’t” James shouted at Tom as he pulled out his wand and aimed it straight at baby Lily.
“Hahaha, you think I care? About some less than half blood baby girl? I’d never” Tom said calmly as he pulled out his wand and aimed at the whole family except for baby Lily. “Avadakadavra” he shot them with the killing curse and both Lily and James Potter die, but Harry’s life had been protected by the strong accidental magic formed by baby Lily’s love for her brother.
“you’re quite the powerful little one aren’t you?” Tom chuckled as he picked up his daughter and took her out of the house carrying her to a muggle orphanage. “I’m quite proud of you my dear. And I love you…never forget that” he told her gently as he left her on the doorstep of the orphanage with a single note that read: This is Lilyanala Riddle, she’s a very important young lady, please protect her…keep her safe and out of trouble until she’s old enough to leave.
It had all came back to her so clearly as she watched the green flame that she hadn’t noticed when a maid walked in. She was muttering to herself trying to figure out what that strange word, the curse? What it did…what it meant.
“Avadakadavra” she mumbled and suddenly she heard a loud thud behind her as the maids corpse hit the ground. The green flame blew out and relit orange like normal. She froze in fear as she saw the dead body. Suddenly in the fireplace the flames grew green and suddenly two old men dressed in colorful robes with long white hair and beards hopped out of the fire.
“What happened here?” one of the men asked calmly as he approached Lily. He was wearing half moon spectacles that brought out the wisdom of his blue eyes.
“w-who are you?! What are you doing in here?! What killed her?!” Lily asked frantically she was only five. She knew nothing about magic until this night and she never understood who she was but it’s starting to fit together. The strange happenings when she was angry or scared.
She had been at school talking with her only friend, the local garden snake, when some boys walked over to her and started asking her rude and insulting questions.
“Why you talking to a snake, Riddle? Your family not love you or something?” one boy asked.
“still too much of a Riddle to get a boyfriend ay Riddle?” another one asked.
“Do you even have parents or were you so much of a freak they gave you up?” the final boy asked. At this point she lost her temper and suddenly each of them one by one caught fire to their pants.
Another time she was arguing with her roommate and she felt small and helpless, she closed her eyes and when she opened them again she was a mouse. It scared her so much she fainted and when she woke up she was human.
Then just last week she was taking a maths test and a girl cheating off of her but when the girl turned in her work it was blank except for the word “Cheat” written in blood across the page.
And of course just now the flame was green, the maid died, the men walked out of the fire.
“shh, it’s okay little one” said the elderly man with half moon spectacles. “My name is Albus Dumbledore I am the headmaster of Hogwarts school of witchcraft and wizardry. And you my dear are a witch.” He explained to the little girl.
“A what?” Lily was confused now more than ever. “You mean like magic and unicorns and all that fantasy stuff?” she didn’t understand how but it was starting to click. “I’m a…a witch?” she repeated as she looked at her hands and thought about the green flame, suddenly a tiny fireball appeared in her hand. “whoa, I’m a witch” she said confidently becoming slightly excited.
“Yes, yes, you’re a witch…and a very powerful and dangerous one…Albus she must be dealt with properly. She’s already killed a muggle, we can’t have her becoming anything like her father.” Said the other man, he was much shorter and far younger but still old.
“I told you, Cornelius…I will take her in and she’ll grow up in Hogwarts Castle” Albus said calmly as Lily was still panicking slightly.
“That…this means…I…I k-killed her…I…I’m a murderer…” she was muttering to herself. As she played with the little fireball she cried slightly as she remembered more of her past.
“Lily, I know you don’t understand but I am your father…my body’s been destroyed so I’m possessing this snake” a tiny garden snake had been telling her as she sat alone outside of the orphanage near an oak tree.
“Daddy? Why’d you give me up? What happened to mum?” Lily had been asking as she sat there crying softly and holding her hand over a deep cut on her neck. The cut had come from the abuse of the owner of the orphanage, who was so against magic that she would hit Lily at even the slightest mention of anything out of the ordinary. Lily had made the mistake of telling the other girls about how the boys at school had caught fire to their pants and the owner of the orphanage overhead.
“Lily, don’t be angry and try to understand…I gave you up because I needed you to be safely hidden away from my enemies: Albus Dumbledore and Harry Potter…and as for your mother…she was a very stubborn woman and a very powerful witch and unfortunately I had to kill her to protect you…” Voldemort in the form of a snake told Lily.
“Wait… you’re Albus Dumbledore? My father said never to trust you, he said you were his enemy and you were going to hurt me…” Lily said honestly as she remembered and started freaking out slightly putting her left hand over the scar on her neck.
“And do you really trust the man who killed your mother and tried to kill your brother?” Albus asked her. She froze unsure of what to say and think.
“He-he…he said he did it to protect me…he didn’t want to…” Lily was trying to defend her father even though it was hard to. “I…I don’t trust you…father said that one of the death eaters would check on me…he said they’d have a cool snake tattoo on their arm…you’re not one of them I can’t trust you” Lily kept trying to defend her father and to remember that he loved her but it was difficult.
“You can trust me milady” said a tall vampire looking wizard wearing all black. Severus Snape an ex-death eater. He showed Lily the tattoo on his left wrist. “you can trust Albus, okay milady?” his voice was usually detached and cold but when he spoke to Lily it was warm and inviting.
Lily stood up and quickly hugged Severus tightly. “o-okay” she mumbled softly clearly instantly trusting Severus. Severus hugged her back softly.
“Okay, Lily Albus is going to adopt you and you are going to live with us in Hogwarts Castle where you belong okay?” Severus repeated the plan to her before planting a soft kiss on her forehead.
“alright, you’ll be there too, right?” Lily asked softly clearly concerned.
“Of course I will little one” Severus reassured her.
