Summer had passed slowly for Lilyanala Riddle. After the strange and emotionally confusing kiss with Draco on the last day of her first year at Hogwarts, she spent the summer at Hogwarts, once again avoiding the world outside the castle walls. Albus Dumbledore and Severus Snape, the two men who had raised her, kept her busy, and for a while, it felt like she had finally found a place where she could be herself.
But there was always that lingering shadow of her past, a part of her that she could never fully escape. The events of her first year — protecting Harry, cursing Quirrell to die, and her growing feelings for Draco — were only the beginning. As much as she wanted to put it all behind her, the whispers from the past refused to stay buried. She knew the coming year would be no different.
It was early September when the students started arriving at Hogwarts for their second year. Lilyanala had been looking forward to seeing Draco again, though she tried not to admit it to herself. But more than anything, she was anxious about Harry’s return. She had spent last year secretly watching over her little half-brother, protecting him from the shadows, and this year she knew it would be even more complicated.
As the students filed into the Great Hall for the welcoming feast, Lily kept to the back, watching as they entered. Her eyes immediately found Harry, standing with Ron and Hermione. She smiled softly to herself, knowing he had no idea of their connection, and that for now, it was better that way.
Then, her gaze shifted to Draco. He was walking with his usual confident swagger, his platinum blond hair gleaming in the candlelight. He glanced around the room, his eyes searching — and when they met hers, his face lit up for a brief second before he quickly composed himself, sliding into his usual smirk.
Lily felt her heart race. She quickly looked away, not wanting anyone to notice her staring. She wasn’t sure what to expect from Draco this year, but she knew their relationship was far from simple. Last year, they had grown close, and though she tried to push him away, she couldn’t deny the connection between them. But then again, Draco didn’t know the full truth — about her, about Harry, about anything. What would happen when he did?
"Welcome to another year at Hogwarts," Dumbledore's voice boomed through the Great Hall as he stood at the head table. "Before we begin our feast, I have a few start-of-term notices."
Lily barely listened as Dumbledore went through his usual announcements. Her thoughts were elsewhere, wandering to the strange dreams she had been having all summer. Dreams of a voice calling to her, whispering things in Parseltongue, urging her to find something — or someone. She had tried to dismiss them as nothing more than remnants of the past, but deep down, she knew they meant something more.
As the feast ended and the students were dismissed to their dormitories, Lily quietly slipped out of the Great Hall, avoiding the crowd. She didn’t feel like joining anyone at their tables tonight, not Gryffindor, Slytherin, or any of the other houses. Instead, she made her way toward the dungeons, her footsteps echoing in the empty halls.
The castle felt different this year. There was a strange energy in the air, something darker than before. Lily could sense it, a familiar presence that sent shivers down her spine. She knew this year would bring new challenges, and she had to be ready.
As she walked through the shadowy corridors, a soft, hissing voice drifted into her mind. It was barely audible, like a whisper carried on the wind.
*Lilyanala…*
She froze, her heart skipping a beat. The voice — it was the same one from her dreams. She turned slowly, scanning the hallway, but there was no one there. The voice was inside her head, as it always was.
*You are my heir…*
Lily clenched her fists, pushing the voice away. She knew exactly what it was — a remnant of her father, Voldemort, still lurking somewhere in the world. She had thought she had escaped him, but it seemed that he still had a hold over her.
“You’re not real,” she muttered under her breath, trying to shake off the creeping dread. “You’re not here.”
But the voice didn’t stop. It continued to whisper, growing louder.
*Find the Chamber…open it…*
The Chamber. Lily’s blood ran cold. She had read about the legendary Chamber of Secrets — the hidden lair of Salazar Slytherin, said to contain a terrible monster. But it was just a myth, wasn’t it? A story to frighten students. And yet, something inside her knew it wasn’t. Her father had been obsessed with Slytherin’s legacy, and now, the voice was urging her toward it.
“No,” she whispered fiercely, gripping the edge of her cloak. “I won’t do it. I won’t listen to you.”
The voice faded, leaving her standing alone in the corridor, her heart pounding in her chest. She had to be careful this year. She couldn’t let Voldemort’s influence control her, not again.
Suddenly, footsteps echoed behind her. Lily turned sharply, half-expecting to see Draco or even Snape, but instead, it was Percy Weasley, his expression serious as he approached her.
“Lily,” Percy said quietly. “Are you alright? I’ve been looking for you.”
Lily forced a smile. Percy had always been protective of her, ever since she was five. He knew about her past — about her connection to Voldemort — but he had never judged her for it. He had always been a friend.
“I’m fine, Percy,” she lied, trying to push the voice from her mind. “Just…thinking.”
Percy frowned, clearly not convinced. “You’ve been acting strange lately. If something’s bothering you, you can tell me, you know. We’ve always looked out for each other.”
Lily sighed, grateful for Percy’s concern, but knowing she couldn’t tell him the full truth. Not yet. There were things she had to figure out on her own.
“I know, Percy,” she said softly. “I’ll be okay. I promise.”
Percy nodded, though he still seemed worried. “Alright. But if you need anything, I’m here. Just…don’t shut us out, okay?”
Lily smiled faintly and gave him a reassuring nod before he walked away, leaving her alone with her thoughts once again.
As she made her way back to her room, Lily couldn’t shake the feeling that this year would be even more dangerous than the last. The whispers from her past were growing louder, and soon, she would have to confront the legacy she had been running from all her life.
But for now, all she could do was wait and watch.
